Knowing Starbucks prices, it probably would have cost him less to just empty the register.

Why yes, I do make my own espresso on the stovetop. Am I not supposed to have all 6 shots in one day? Was that wrong?

Robbery is the taking of another's property by force or fear. Coffee is still property. And since the employee didn't have to force him to take the coffee, it would still be robbery, not coercion on the part of the barista.

That's Starbucks Coffee. So good it repels robbery!

Held up at gunpoint? Give 'em a Starbucks!

You'll be glad you did.

I did something like this once. I talked a couple of kids with a gun down to $20 after wrestling with one of them. I peeled a Jackson off my roll and gave it to the unarmed one.

2013-01-21 07:47:36 AM
he got free biscotti.

2013-01-21 07:55:53 AM
Read it as "Robber: "Repair the cash register." Starbucks employee: "How about some free coffee instead?" Robber: "OK""

Was very confused.

Next Up: Starbucks employee gets fired for giving a robber free coffee.

The best place to rob. Starbucks makes more money than Walmart just by selling a few cups of coffee. She should've sold that cup he got for free to buy himself a week vacation somewhere in the Caribbeans.

/*guilty look* I buy coffee from them on a regular basis

You use a line of credit that probably runs what, 6%, to buy single-use consumer goods? Are you a moron?

Robbery is the taking of another's property by force or fear. Coffee is still property. And since the employee didn't have to force him to take the coffee, it would still be robbery, not coercion on the part of the barista.

That kind of depends on the wording used, because it sounds to me like there may have been an offer of free coffee. If the drawer really couldn't be opened, the alleged robber would have walked away empty-handed. The free coffee was just the employee being nice. The alleged robber accepted the coffee as a gift, not as the product of a robbery, the objective of which was clearly cash, not coffee.

Therefore it's attempted robbery, not robbery. I have no idea if that legally benefits the suspect in Alabama.
