That pic makes me LOL every single time I see it.

God I love those games. I love those games so much, I even enjoy games like Command & Conquer and Simpsons Tap Out because they're kinda like Sim City. Then I would get frustrated in C&C because they would keep coming and destroying the cool base I was trying to build.

It won't actually help with any of that. You can't save your game, so no playing with tornadoes. No subways, either. And your cities, in addition to being tiny in space, can't have more people than Wichita, Kansas; in order to survive, your city will have to specialize, which is the exact opposite of how real-world cities behave.

As a teacher who uses games with students all the time, I honestly believe that playing this variant of SimCity will make students less educated rather than more.

I played with one of the early Sim City versions but I don't know the current abilities.

Does it allow you to set up a Working Nazi Dictatorship? Diss the Fascist all you want, but they often had "booming" economies and got the trains to run on time.

This is going to be the worst Sim city game ever. I don't understand who they are aiming for with this one, casual Sim city players left for the Sims long ago. Simcity 4 was superb but this is garbage. The more I learn of this game the more I am pissed off. This game will bomb terribly and I hope whoever is responsible for this game kills themselves.

My computer still isnt fast enough to run simcity 4...

Yeah, they had a great basis for SimCity 4 but the random crashes they never fixed seemed to drive away a lot of users. They should have built off of what was a solid start, but instead they seem to have placed the blame for it being a failure on the gameplay instead of the game crashing before you could get much of anything done.

SimCity games have limitations. But the basic idea is a far better way of educating than standard classroom.

Always on DRM is fine. Putting your saved games to the EA servers where you can't have fun and destroy your city then reload makes it the worst. I'm going to pirate this game when "offline" mode is hacked into it.

I never cared for the old SimCity games, and outside of the terrible online only nonsense with the constant realtime saves, this new version looks like something I might actually enjoy playing.

Also, I'm sure the game will be cracked and the DRM will be removed, as will the crazy save restrictions, within months of the release.

This is stupid true.  Plus "always-online" DLC that will allow for a few minutes of play, at best, if servers go down.

And also, there are plans for a shiatton of DLC buildings, Sim skins, etc., which they're calling "ploppables."  The game itself is turning out to be a gigantic ploppable.

Really getting sick of games with double digit DLC's - they're basically BEGGING you to not buy the game until 2 years out when it comes out in GOY edition with all DLC's included.

The EA answer is that you're going to have so much more fun playing the game thanks to forced socialization that you won't even notice the massive decrease in game options (for example, no subways in this version either). So instead of game features, you'll have leaderboards. Because when people think SimCity, they immediately think leaderboards.

Oh, and also - according to EA - there's just so much going on under the hood of the game, that your computer isn't powerful enough to run it. You need access to their cloud computing to handle all of the details.

The more realistic answer would be that A) they like the idea of always on DRM, as although it may eventually get cracked, it'll likely last at least a week or so during which time most of the sales will take place, and B) EA has decided to try and shoehorn multiplayer into everything, because they've realized that people talking other people into playing games is a great marketing system.

For someone who was looking forward to a new single player (that part shouldn't even need to be said) SimCity, this is going to be an abomination.

Simcity was ruined with that SimCity Societies game. That was an abortion.

I have Simcity 4, which I picked up for a song on Steam. I think I'll stick with that, rather than this online-based bull.

I bought CitiesXL 2012 when it was on sale, but haven't played much. (4 hours) It just seems like my city is impossible to please. I can't just sit back and generate revenue for a minute. Then again, these games have always been an exercise in slowly going bankrupt for me..

Anyway, CitiesXL seems like a decent clone with no EA.

It will take quite a bit to get me to load Origin on my machine. It's like a platimum-plated, crappier, less-game-populated version of Steam, which works great (the latest updates now allow you to place your steam games on alternative drives, for those people with limited space on their SSD boot drives)

...to clarify, I mean Steam works well. I have no idea on Origin, except that it is EA's attempt to "me too" the cloud gaming market, but instead of Gabe's vision that aims to make gamers happy (and make loads of cash in the process), we have faceless EA CEO's vision of generating as much cash as possible from suckers, erm, gamers as possible and shove our own intrusive DRM down their throats without regard to their wishes.

Origin is serviceable, but considering how EA treats a lot of their other online services, any loyalty to it should be suspect at best. The cloud save functionality is barely functional and there's not a lot of options in terms of organizing your visible library of games on it. The only reason it managed to gain a sizable population at all was only because of Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3on PC, and the number of other console games where they've managed to shoehorn Origin account services into it.

They also seem to have no desire to keep Origin evolving much like Steam has. They've put more effort into trying to build up 3rd party support into the storefront than in keeping the client competitive with steam.

For me though, my dislike of Origin comes from it being one of the major reasons Syndicate was killed off as a franchise. Sure, the game wasn't earth shattering, but that they locked it away to Origin and only Origin killed interest in it for myself and many others at launch.

Hell, could probably be partially to blame for TOR's less than stellar launch numbers in that first month since there was a lot of confusion on how to obtain it.
