The legislative effort comes amid increasing awareness of potential human trafficking in disreputable massage parlors. Police and federal agents fear that victims are being forced to live on the premises while working long hours and performing sex acts on clients.

South Florida massage therapists who work late at night said a proposed law to set hours of operation would not infringe on their freedom to work whenever they want.

Somehow, and this is just a wild-ass guess, I don't think licensed massage therapists are the people they're worried about.

What are you talking about? My local legitimate masseuse totally has a spend-the-night package. Yours kicks you out after normal business hours?

2013-01-20 06:24:25 PM
So, by creating a pretty inconsequential law telling them they have to close at certain hours you're somehow going to prevent already illegal brothels, especially ones that use trafficked women, from operating...

Yeah, please explain to me how that's going to work, because I'm quite interested in hearing about how the traffickers are going to say "Welp, guess I'm out of business then!" and release their sex slaves.

How is allowing massages between 6am and 10pm going to stop human trafficking? Really, the U.S. just needs to legalize and regulate prostitution, then just spend redirect resources to going after actual human traffickers.

So much this. Why is it so hard to understand a fundamental concept? I feel like I'm going crazy every time I hear some politician spouting about trying to help some exploited group of people by passing a useless, feel-good law, and NOBODY seems to call them out on it. Nobody in politics has a backbone anymore and it saddens and sickens me.

It not the handjob, it's the slavery that's the issue. Personally I have no problem with prositution as long as the whore is not coerced.

I would support the death penalty for human trafficking. I think prostitution should be legal.

Add me to the pile that thinks prostitution should be legal and regulated. Maybe we should start one of those White House petitions?

it is amazingly sad that our government and law enforcement are total cock blockers. they prefer men be unhappy, tense and sexually frustrated. that is sick and twisted. sadly we're a nation of well armed pansies that will never stand up for what we want.

I think what we really need is to be told exactly when we can and can't do everything. That will surely solve all our problems while not causing others. For example, it's well-known that you can't give a sexual massage between the hours of 6am and 10pm, so the government telling people when they can and can't get massages makes perfect sense.

Was golfing in Florida one time, when we made the turn, we stopped at the Snack Shack.

Sign said: Hot Dogs $3 Hamburgers $4 Hand Jobs $5

I asked the cute little coed at the window, " Who gives the hand jobs?"

She beamed and said, " I do. "

Being the gentleman that I am, I said, "Well wash your hands Missy, and cook me a burger."

Many of the businesses seem to be dropping the cliche blacked-out front windows for colorful, lit-up murals depicting massage scenes.

Around here at least blacked out front windows are a pretty strong indication that it offers more than just a massage.

I would also say that offering late-night hours is a pretty strong indication of more than just massage unless it's part of a larger operation that runs that late. It's possible that there are places that get enough late patrons from workers as such places but I have never run into such a place.

2013-01-20 10:18:21 PM
I don't know why, but around here there have been a ton of 'Asian' and 'Oriental' massage places opening up over the past year. It went from one to about a dozen practically overnight.

I've been a bit curious about what goes on behind those black tinted windows. If they are prostitution-fronts, I guess that's fine, I have no problem with it as long as it is mutually consensual and no one is being forced to work at any of them against their will.

Around here the odds that they offered more than just massage would be basically 100%. That doesn't mean they all offered actual sex, though--some were just rub & tug places.

One AMP near where I used to work got busted with underage girls as young as 14.

It's almost certain that most are fronts for brothels and there's a decent chance the people working there were smuggled into the country and they have "consented" to work to pay off their coyotes.

The only thing this law would do would give them 8 hours where they don't have to work.
