Stuff like this was actually popular at the squad/platoon level for variety after a week of lifting/more standard forms of PT. At first, most people thought it was kind of dumb, but the few people who tried it attested to the level of difficulty and apparent benefit in flexibility, which drew the others like moths to a flame.

And that's the answer to getting Marines to try anything, by the way. Just say it's really hard, but turns you into a total badass.

Nothing to see here. Guys from the Corps have been studying Eastern Martial Arts for decades, the whole meditation/oneness thing is part and parcel of all that. Anyone with a hate-on for Eastern religion/philosophy would never take a Judo, Karate or Kempo/Kung Fu class in their lives. It'd be like someone from the KKK spending their vacation going to a New Orleans Jazz festival.

christians hate yoga, because it is tied to the hindu type religion, which believes in reincarnation, therefor it is evil and must be abolished.

/christians also hate Buddhists as they also believe in reincarnation.
///christians hate acupuncture because Buddhists.
//And in a few weeks, christians celebrate zombie jesus and his resurrection/reincarnation.
//I celebrate the chocolate bunny god by eating his disciples.

The powerful tribal chief, Aaron, once told Shifu Miao Zhang that "Our tribe's god is very powerful and helps us defeat others. I once threw my staff on the ground and it turned into venomous snakes. Another time, I shook my staff in anger and made all the water in the wells and creeks turn into blood."

Miao Zhang looked at Aaron and softly said, "I've used my cane to dig up roots to feed some hungry children. Fortunately, chief, our gentle gods mostly leave us alone."

White_Scarf_Syndrome: This is good.

Do you think this kind of therapy might work for people who had things happen to them in childhood, and now still experience PTSD, anxiety, etc. etc. in their early 30's? Like...a not common therapy of farking drugs, and western psychotherapy?

I'm very serious and it's not about me but someone I care very much about.

If it's got the potential to help combat-shocked Marines, it's certainly got the potential to help psychologically injured civilians.

I wish you and yours well :)

whither_apophis: SacriliciousBeerSwiller: Read "The Men Who Stare at Goats" (skip the lame movie that is only loosely inspired by the book). This stuff has been going on in the Army and Marines for a while. The military has been influenced by new age weirdos since the early 1980s.

But not the Air Force, chock full of evangelicals.

I'd guess that the relatively low first hand exposure to the actual human effects of their operations would tend to make them a bit less in need of spiritual exploration.

this is weird to me, I do yoga 3 to 4 times a week and have never had an instructor try to convert me.

unlike christians who won't let me watch a football game without letting me their favorite bible verse.

The Weeners after TFA is the best troll I've ever read.... I hope.

Only good can come from this sort of training. I'm glad the military is finally trying to address stress in a way that isn't "man up, Nancy".
