That's what I did. Didn't want to pay $20 for a taxi back home ~5 miles away (or walk for that matter) and didn't want to drive drunk. I converted my backseat into a bed during my nights at the bar. I was a little apprehensive of doing it later on though after a few people got busted for DUIs in the city because they had their keys in the vehicle with them (not in the ignition) while they were sleeping in the backseat. Cops argued that it was probable cause since that they could get up at any time and start driving.

Driving through someone's house while drunk is fine in my book. Builds character.

Super lame. The same logic would apply to drinking in a bar close to your car. Would take as long to walk to the car and start it up.

I know people busted for sitting in the driver's seat with the car off. But according to my dad, who's in law enforcement, in ca at least, the law says the cop has to have a strong reason to believe they just drove or were about to. Like if the engine was still warm.

I have a friend that had gone out with his girlfriend and they ended their night at a bar within walking distance of her house. She got drunk and mean on the way home and decided that she didn't want him to stay at her house anymore. She locks him out and has his wallet ( don't know why she had his wallet). His only option at this point was to sleep in the car. Meanwhile she was so drunk and loud it drew the attention of a neighbor that called the police. They find him asleep in his car and now he has a DUI.

True. But if the house was responsible speeding owner would it have to lock it in a safe? If not, another house may steal it and use it on a Ford.

The most surprising part of this story is that a Land Rover was able to start and make it to the road in the first place. Usually they're causing no harm while getting worked on at the local Rover dealer.

My aunt was killed this way about four years ago. Some drunk lost control of his car and ran up over the curb and into her yard. So...I can't snark :-(

I know a guy who was asleep on a couch and got knocked into the next room when a drunk old person came crashing through the wall behind the couch. He was perfectly fine.

I don't have any sympathy for a$$holes that choose to drive drunk, but think the laws should be rewritten regarding sleeping drunk in a car. If you are not in the drivers' seat and/or the keys are placed in the trunk or somewhere else where you have to get out of the vehicle to retrieve them, that's bulls*t. If you get charged as DUI for that, then that encourages taking the risk of driving drunk... you're less likely to be spotted by the cops than sitting stationary for several hours.
