AcesFull: these days, when the Eddie Murphy/Rick James video is dredged up..I hear Jack Donaghy saying..."What you can't see, just out of camera view,is a wheelbarrow full of cocaine"....

Those were magical times, my friend.

Those were the 80s.

Quantum Apostrophe: Hermione_Granger: It never ceases to amaze me what Farker men define as "hot".

Well we don't all have meetings, all 3.5 billion of us, every week so we can all agree on what's hot this week.

But women do, so why don't men? At least, in Ms. Granger's fantasy world they do, and she's the ruler of the entire assembly, so naturally all other women agree with her. Men who pretend other women might have different standards of hotness and try to meet those standards instead of Ms. Grangers' therefore self-identify as part of the "rape culture," since they obviously don't care what women are REALLY thinking, and only pretend they can't figure it out from what Ms. Granger tells them because of their inborn hate for all women.

/at least her reasoning is internally consistent
//it's pretty sad that "internal consistency" is the best we can hope for from the Generation Whine, as expecting their ideologies to be constrained by harsh reality in any way is apparently an offense worthy of prison time

BroncoFan_17: anotar: While behind bars, Flynn earned a GED and an electrician's apprentice license, and married a former executive assistant to the Wiscasset, Maine, superintendent of schools. Incarcerated in Maine, he's eligible for parole on June 4, 2015, according to Jeffrey Lyons of the N.H. Department of Corrections.

What is the deal with getting married while in prison?

And I don't mean "why are there people crazy enough to marry a convict whom they have never met in person", I mean what benefits do prisoners receive by getting married? It is not infrequent, so if you are married does it figure in to the parole hearing or something?

I'm sure it would be a little helpful in a parole hearing, that you're married, and have some "support" when you get out. Also, the most obvious, conjugal visits.

I don't know if the marriage will be a helpful factor at the parole hearing since marriages that start while one spouse in jail, fail in the first year after that spouse is released. As for conjugal visits, that would depend on the state for some states do not allow any conjugals at all. The biggest factor for the couple is having someone who keeps in constant contact with while no one else cares that you are alive. When a woman lands a prison husband, she doesn't have to worry about him cheating (with other women) and a man that depends on her completely for no one from his past is still talking to him. After he gets out, he may no longer 'love' her since he would have more choices or returns to his violent nature. If you are willing to marry someone with a criminal past, do it after they leave jail and started building a stable life.

I grew up with Billy Flynn, when his family was in SoCal, so I'm getting a kick....

I hope she spends the rest of her life in jail.

I did a stint in corrections. What people who have no experience of prison fail to grasp is the effect of year upon year of empty existence on the mind. People like to imagine that prisoners sit in a chair and spend years daily reflecting on the wicked things they did and chanting, "Gosh, I wish I hadn't been so bad! I truly regret transgressing the laws of Society!"

In reality, it never works that way. Prisoners build a wall of rationalizations within days and spend the remainder of their sentence trying to occupy their time. Imagine yourself back in school. Now, imagine having only 2 classes, and the school day is 16 hours long. Graduation is 20 years away. The sort of crap that you used to do to pass the time in study hall is now the centerpiece of your life. Shiat that you couldn't bring yourself to do now with a gun to your head you'll devote endless hours to. You'll read the Bible cover to cover multiple times, even if you don't believe a word in it.

So, enter some fat, nasty cow who is desperate for a man to validate her existence and can't find a sane one outside of prison. Why not marry her? You can have a courtship by correspondence, which will is good for months of drama, and she'll send you letters which you can wack off to if the steamy parts aren't censored. She can come visit you, which will be the social high point of your month, and you'll get to stride proudly past your envious fellow inmates to the visitation rooms. You'll get to talk to a person who is not an inmate about life on The Outside and build all kinds of sandcastles with her about what you'll do on the Great and Distant Day, none of which will happen of course...

It's pretty depressing, but yeah it makes sense.

Stay out of trouble.

She's always referred to as a teacher when in fact she was a librarian.

With that being said ... it's kind of stupid that the three kids who actually carried all this out, including the guy who shot Greg Smart, are all going to get paroled within the next couple of years while she stays in prison. Was she that hot/good in bed that someone didn't say "hey, maybe this isn't a good idea"? I've read stuff about this and basically they got married super-young, they were both hair metalheads but he got a real job and cut his hair. Stupidity all around.

I'd guess that it has to do with the fact that the actual assailants were minors (16) at the time of the murder and were acting at the urging of an adult.

Look at it this way: suppose you're a wife and you tell your 7-year-old son a long, tearful story about how evil Dad is and all the bad things he did to you; and you tell him how happy you'll all be and how much you'll love him if he'll be a good boy and stab Dad in the chest while he's napping.

Of course no one is going to think of charging the kid with anything, and it would seem reasonable for you to face Murder One, even though you didn't lift a finger. A child knows murder is wrong, but he's easy to suborn by adults, especially the ones he depends on for love and approval as much as a junky depends on his dealer. 16 is much more independent than 7 of course, which is why the boys still went to prison, but I suppose that the same principle was applied against Smart who certainly had a much easier time persuading the 16-year-old whom she was leading down the sexual garden path (watch your step) than she would have had with an adult lover.

That's my guess, anyway.

The difference between 20 and 40 isn't very kind, regardless.

To be somewhat shallow, catty, and honest, I think she looks better now. I hated the ratty perms of the late 80s/early 90s (having had several myself).

That said, glad she's still in prison.

Media coordinator or Media Specialist is not a librarian. She was not even housed in the same building as the school. The temporary media building/trailer across the parking lot. And by media, they mean cassette tapes and stuff.
