Luckily for Bill, this is already paid for.

There are two kinds of people who will say they have no use for money: those who have far too much, and those who don't have any.

It really does sound like he's doing it for all the right reasons, that is just because it's the right thing to do.  In contrast, Andrew Carnegie gave away much of his wealth, because he was literally afraid he would be going to hell.

Headline takes a few liberties with the quote to move it to the trolly side. FTFA:

"I'm certainly well taken care of in terms of food and clothes," he says, redundantly. "Money has no utility to me beyond a certain point. Its utility is entirely in building an organisation and getting the resources out to the poorest in the world."

He in no way said he had no use for money. He was just acknowledging that there's really only so much of it you can practically spend on yourself with a fortune that vast, and after that, it has no personal utility. So, might as well give it away where it can be put to good use.

The alterations will get some good reactions in the thread though, so I guess subby has that going for him/her.

As Leonardo DiCaprio so eloquently pointed out in ''Aviator'', only those who never lacked money say this kind of thing.

And yet, he and Warren Buffett want the gubmint to take YOUR money and spend it how the gubmint wants. Drinking the Kool-aid, one glass at a time.

And those who benefited from that money don't care whether Bill or Andrew gave it to them.

I was about to write a gushing rant of approval of Ol' Bill and Mel, but then I read the comments, and now I wonder what sort of guilt they're going to feel when they find out that their actions are directly responsible for the starvation deaths of millions more people in the future, leading to the eventual overthrow of the British monarchy by a hybrid race of donkey/people who feed on the blood of the polio-immunized.

Came here to say that "Money has no utility to me beyond a certain point." and "I have no use for money" are not even slightly the same thing, but I see that's been covered, so...

...

... I guess good luck to him eradicating polio and taking down malaria a notch or two, then. Not much more to say, there.

Microsoft was once a leader, and that was when Bill Gates was at the helm. Now Microsoft has Steve Balmer in charge, a sweaty salesman, and it has been steadily going downhill for the past decade. You want a revitalized Microsoft? Put a nerd back in charge.

Anytime you have an iconoclast as your leader, be it Gates or Steve Jobs, you're going to see great innovations and great failures (though the failures always tend to be forgotten; remember that in your own pursuits). Once the iconoclast is gone, and the reigns are given to a businessman (Balmer, Tim Cook), it's then a steady decline from the greatness that was.

As for the article, Bill Gates is an awesome person. While I selfishly wish he was still in charge at Microsoft, the work he is doing now is far better for the planet than he could ever accomplish as head of a software company.

Why not have clean vaccines that don't have known poisons in them? I notice people like you always fight for shooting mercury into infants instead of taking poisons out of vaccines. You can have healthier ways of vaccinating and a large portion of objections would disappear. It seems like your problem is not with people who just refuse to vaccinate. You really seem to hate people for not being blindly obedient. How dare someone make informed health care choices!!

Farking duplicate threads.

Anyway, if DubtodaIll wanders in here:

DubtodaIll: I've always wondering why any cultish leader makes statements like these and how they actually go about justifying such statements?

Why justify them? They've already made it to positions of power and authority without needing to do a whole lot of justification. A depressingly-large percentage of humanity responds just fine to "because I farking said so" and being pointed towards external causes of every woe in their lives.

DubtodaIll: Is it simply to justify/cement their own power of the individuals who take them seriously?

Yep, and that's a lot of individuals.

DubtodaIll: Are the clerics themselves really that ignorant?

On many issues like this, usually not. But populist rhetoric doesn't need to make sense to them - just to the ignorant masses.

Why don't you actually look at what is in vaccines instead of parroting anti-vaxxer nonsense? How dare you claim to be making informed choices? By repeating such lies you are making those who listen to your arguments LESS informed and less able to make wise choices.

"Thimerosal has been removed from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine (see Table 1). A preservative-free version of the inactivated influenza vaccine (contains trace amounts of thimerosal) is available in limited supply at this time for use in infants, children and pregnant women. Some vaccines such as Td, which is indicated for older children (≥ 7 years of age) and adults, are also now available in formulations that are free of thimerosal or contain only trace amounts. Vaccines with trace amounts of thimerosal contain 1 microgram or less of mercury per dose."
