I had an ex-girlfriend who had a friend that was a stripper. She was fine with it and lectured me on a comment I made about it her, which was really just "wow what a career that is!" She gave me the fat "girl power speech."

Later her girl friend offered me a lap dance for my birthday. I said "hell yeah I'm taking up her offer, who am I to judge her line of work? Girl power right?" All hell broke loose.

Yeah. The majority of new reporters have a 4-year degree + 1-2 professional internships, and will start at a cops reporting job in Bumfark, Nowhere, where they'll work 50hr/wk, mostly at night, for around $26k-$32k. They'll do that for 2-3 years, dodging layoffs, unpaid furloughs and alcoholism.

Everyone wants the NYT/NPR/CNN/FOX job that pays some actual money (maybe twice or three times that, with the caveat that you have to live on that salary in the city), but a tiny handful of those open up each year, and competition is fierce.

No shiat. I guess by "rival" they meant only other paper in town. I love the Press but how much of a rival can you be when your distribution hubs are head shops, liquor stores and crappy roadside boxes that the homeless think of as blanket distributors.
