jimzdat: Wife and I went to see Last Stand the other night - while not the greatest epic film of all time by any stretch, there were a few times when everyone in the theater was laughing.

I guess as long as you view it as a "action-comedy" and not a serious flick, you may not be too disappointed.

Just putting it out there, but if anyone walked into the theater and expected a serious flick, they are poaching our oxygen and should be allowed to perish.

The previews make The Last Stand look dumb enough that 'I might watch it through Netflix, but not at a theater.

coco ebert: I'm noticing a lot of aging actors doing action movies- Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Willis, etc. I wonder if studios are consciously trying to reach out to baby boomers and it's failing or if these guys are just institutions that are able to get what movie they want produced regardless of age.

That's part of it I'm sure. I know I don't consider Shia LeDouche, James Franco and Ryan Gosling suitable replacements

Time for the people who willfully ignore the current climate of International/DVD/Blu-Ray/Netflix/Television/Amazon/iTunes/Basic Budget Analysis to gleefully declare something a failure.

Good validating, Subby. You're tougher than Arnold!

Facepalm. The budget is between 30-45 million according to wikipedia, which seems like it would be easy to recoup. But that doesn't take into account the marketing costs, which sometimes doubles the budget. So, let's say 80 million. This film will be 10th place this weekend. IN ITS OPENING WEEKEND. I am guessing that it will not make 10 million this weekend, it will probably make 8 million or less. The second weekend, you can expect between a 40-60% decline in revenue, and the same for the next 4 weeks after that. 8 + (8x0.4) + (8x0.4x0.4) + (8x0.4x0.4x0.4) + (8x0.4x0.4x0.4x0.4) + (8x0.4x0.4x0.4x0.4x0.4) = 8 + 3.2 + 1.28 + 0.512 + 0.2048 + 0.08192 = about 13.3 million, in its entire theatrical run. Let's say my math is off by 50%, that is still only about 20 million. Do you think that the rental / purchase market is going to recoup 60 million dollars?

Oh SH*T! Math strikes again!

Dumb movies like that make a lot of money overseas. I'm convinced that Hollywood often gives the green on movie projects with international box office receipts in mind.

Crewmannumber6: chuggernaught: From what I understand it's written as kind of a spoof of Ahnahld's age.

The it was marketed poorly. It looks bad, but still not as bad as Parker. What kind of retard wants to see that after it's ads>

Huh. Jason Statham as a badass. Hot chick, partially dressed, probably more than once. Statham kicks ass, gets revenge on people stealing his cut.

Verdict: Maybe Netflix. Or, I just watch a better Statham vehicle, like Snatch.

It cost nothing to make and will probably do really well on home video.

30 million dollar production budget? It will not only turn a profit but just might get a sequel if it does well overseas.

I would see it. From what I understand it's written as kind of a spoof of Ahnahld's age. Plus Luis Guzman's in it. Can't go wrong with Luis Guzman.

We ended up seeing This is 40. About 20 minutes too long, but had some great one liners, extremely uncomfotable funny moments, and a nice little story all in all. Plus I appreciated Leslie Mann showing her breasticles.
