I thought that was from the Toronto Sun. Only difference is that she would have 7 kids from 5 guys because the more you pump out the more you take in (whether you feed and clothe them or not). And if any of my Candain friends don't believe me, take a day off, drive to Scarborough or North York and walk around.

Bungles: She sure seems to be making good money (as an actress who will hire herself out to The Sun to falsify a story in order to validate one of Murdoch's favourite faux bugbears "Immigrants Steal Benefit Money!".

Natalia Belova

The Sun lie? Say it ain't so!

She was in one commercial ten years ago. That hardly makes her an actress. The rest of the profile you linked confirms items in the story--Lithuanian, speaks six languages, etc. The only thing that would make you think this is faked is that in her profile she says she "enjoys working with people."

I'd penis her mouth, if you know what I mean. And I think you do.

ChaosStar: FTFA:
She continued: "I love to buy clothes on my credit cards and often have a blow-out at stores like Roberto Cavalli and the Armani Exchange.

"I will pay off my credit cards eventually. I use my pay to cover the minimum repayment.

"I also enjoy going to nightclubs and parties with my friends. It's important to go out and get dressed up. It's good for my self-esteem."

The blonde insisted: "Every mother deserves a treat."

Damn I want to punch her in the face.

Exactly, she isn't paying for the nice clothes and vacations with her benefits, she is paying for them by running up credit card debt that she will repay "eventually".

/But I don't know why so many from the US are pissed, that was The American Way from 1997-2007.
//And $20-25,000, in benefits, not even just cash-in-hand, seems like a small price to pay to keep the kid from having to live on the street and watch her mom turn tricks in the back seat, eventually learning that there is no reasosn to try and help society, but instead it exists soley to be preyed upon...or something.
///And how can someone who legitimately speaks 6 languages not find a job somewhere? Unless she speaks pig-latin and obscure Lithuanian dialects spoken by the mute tribes of the northern hinterlands.

Well, if it works, then the story has done its job, whether or not it's true. That's called the NY Times effect.

Andromeda: Sigh...

CSB time, one of my Hungarian cousins moved to the UK where after a few years of working here and there she ended up getting involved with a washed-out British wannabe musician many years older, and they ran a little studio that went under right when the economy tanked.  Around then she got pregnant too, and the kid is now going on 2 years old with no real work seen in that family since.

I asked last time I saw her a few months ago, she said he does DJing on the weekends but that's too tiring for him to find a job during the rest of the week, so they just live off of benefits.  The fact that you can just do this in the UK evidently amazes me.

==================

Most Euro countries are like this. You can keep body and soul together while on the dole....unlike the US. Fact remains that most people want more than just necessities. The vast majority of able bodied people who end up on the dole make an honest effort to get back in the game. Some never do....some are of broken mind/body....some are just grifters. The fact is there will always be small time grifters. It's a small price for society to pay....unlike the big time banker and Wall St grifters we have here in the US.

BronyMedic: Linux_Yes: in the USA, the big payouts go to the huge farm owners and other big ticket boys. we have scruples here.

Hardly. I know of people who keep their special needs kids alive just because they get a weekly paycheck from the State. I'm not talking "Little billy has social skill problems" special needs. I'm talking "Little billy is dependant on a trach and g-tube, and his brain turned to mush years ago" kind of special needs.

WTF FU so much JFC.................!

Oh wait, sarcastic humor, yeah?
I also know some folks who rake in sweet, sweet Medicaid-funded paychecks just from wiping indigent elderly butts in nursing homes. How does this help society any, right? And is there any point to it? Buncha $8/hr gov't sponges if'n ya ask me, har dee har.

Horsebolt McStabledoor: SoothinglyDeranged: That is one, predictably, ugly face.

[images.castcall.blue-compass.com.s3.amazonaws.com image 533x800]

yah, what a hag

Not saying she's necessarily ugly, but anyone that can't even figure out how makeup works probably wouldn't know "designer" clothes from the tee-shirt bin at Goodwill. She certainly seems to have dressed herself from a Halloween store and her daughter from the Salvation Army.

//No offense to the good folk at the Salvation Army store, which is a fine place that provides a valuable service. I'm just saying the photographic evidence does not really back up the claims the article makes, especially since "foreign" vacationing in Europe takes about as much money and effort as it would take me to 'vacation' in northern Mexico, that is to say an occasional bus ticket and a bit of beer money.

Infernalist: The only thing I'd change about their system is a monitoring to ensure that the recipients are either training for new work or going to school or actively seeking work.

There will ALWAYS be those few that take advantage of the system. These few are not reason enough to ruin the whole system for the many who do not abuse it.

Other than that, non-story here.

This is pretty much what I wanted to say. I always ask people if they'd trade lives with welfare recipients since, you know, it's that great.

2013-01-20 10:35:25 AM

doglover: She can pay all her bills without working a minute, so ANY work she does is straight up pocket money. With 125 pounds a week from her part time, she can save up 2000 pounds a year for vacations even after buying some mid-range brand clothes.

She's not going to have any bills beyond food and rent on that kind of money. That's what's known as "poor."

People gaming the system? UNPOSSIBLE! Propaganda, I say!

And despite the Coalition's looming cap on benefits - which Labour will again vote against tomorrow - Natalija vowed: "I am not going to work like a dog on minimum wage."

Right before a vote on the issue, a clearly one sided article comes out. The whole thing is loaded with language that stirs emotions. I'm not saying that the article is false, but it's definitely biased.

2013-01-20 10:48:10 AM
Well I can't say I blame her. Spend time at home with your kids or go be a wage slave for the same amount but pay 1/2 of it out for child care. Yeah that makes sense.

BUT get a job that doesn't pay fark all and this isn't a problem, if you can't get that job take another and work your way up

The Stealth Hippopotamus: Many Lithuanians are smoking hot. This is not one of them. And it's not fraud. Fraud would be claiming a child she didn't have or a dead relative. Like she say and the author points out it's all legal (and fraud is by definition not legal) what she is doing. This is what happens when you disincentive work and do not put an end date on benefits.

Oh, there's an end date on the benefits. When the child hits 18 or moves out.

Funny thing is, the conservatives won't allow it because that'd be 'soshulizm.'

Derp.

There's a difference between keeping your kid alive for a paycheck when they have no quality of life at all, and being unable to take care of a parent who is quite capable of breathing on their own and has some brain function left. I'm neither being sarcastic, nor trying to make a dark joke. There are people that do this.

(assuming the story is 100% true as written)

In the UK, her example is little more than tabloid fodder for a handful of readers to become outraged.

In the US, examples like hers cause congress to seriously consider completely eliminating every social net, including the Social Security and Medicare insurance policies that take ~8-15% of each paycheck as a premium, and is the sole means of income and healthcare for many retired and disabled Americans.

In the American political system, one idiot committing fraud really can ruin it for everyone else.

So the total amount she lives on, including her "side" wages is beneath the poverty level in the UK for a single person, not including a child.. yet the Sun puts up some heavily edited story that makes it sound like this person is living in the lap of luxury on the tax payers dime.

This person is *poor*. The fact that she may be making the best of it without scrounging for scrap in garbage cans isn't exactly an indictment on providing child care benefits to single mothers. The article is so ridiculously slanted that it's a perfectly textbook example of tabloid journalism.. but did you really expect anything different from The Sun?
