"Cool?" More like "sad" that people are so oversensitive and that there even is a "fat acceptance movement"

gingerjet: Perhaps Epcot could start with fixing its horrible food at its park.

/the worst French food I ever had was at the French restaurant at Epcot

I went to Epcot with my girlfriend last year and we ate at Teppan Edo (Japanese restaurant). Great food, great service. I think your problem was the "french" part.

WhippingBoy: killeroflight: I enjoyed taking my kids to the health and fitness side of the Disney. It was decent infotainment. Going in the off season removed most of the long waits as well.
In regards to Fat people hating on people who lose weight. My experience dropping 60-70 pounds was the same as the person up thread. people wanted to know how I did it, and when they found out it was "eat less...Move more" , they could not have gotten away fast enough. I was told several times that I needed to stop losing weight "for my health" and that I looked like a holocaust survivor, from someone that looked like they ate a holocaust survivor. 6'7" 205#. Would like to put on more muscle...Working on that.

I had a similar experience. At one point in my life, I lost about 60 pounds (and was still just *barely* in the range of my ideal weight). Some people were openly very angry with me. I guess if you use the excuse that "fat is just how I am", it can be quite unsettling to see evidence to the contrary.

My SIL did that to me (she's 5'6 pushing 360). When I said I modified my eating and walked everywhere her comment was "It wouldn't work on me, I'm big boned". My husband piped up "Your spine must be massive between your ribs and pelvis."

He's an asshole but I love him. He's always got my small boned back.

Everyone wants a magic pill to lose weight & it doesn't exist. I've lost over 90lbs. My mother is still land whale sized & thinks what the Dr says is gospel. I've tried to tell her how I lost the weight. She gets defensive every time I try. We've almost come to blows over it. She's retired so it's not like she doesn't have the time to exercise. She's just too lazy get off the couch. She also love to try to sabotage me. I once told her 8 times I didn't want potatoes with my eggs. When she gave me my plate there were potatoes on it. :/ I try to avoid eating at her house. If I do I ask to do things like grill vegis. Surprisingly she likes this.

It is so easy to lose weight when you educate yourself. It's so easy. Just eat the right things. Limit what you eat to a normal amount. Lastly get off your ass & get moving. We've just gotten so lazy as a nation. No one wants to put in the work to get healthy. Instead of actually making meals we get tv dinners or take out. Both are horrible for you. Also a huge no no is soda. Any kind of soda. Diet or regular. I stopped drinking diet soda, when I was at my top weight, & I dropped 20lbs in a month. Mind you I didn't do any exercise in that time. The only thing I did that was different was that I stopped drinking 2ltrs of diet soda a day. As I said people are just too lazy to try.

I still have some weight to lose. I'm just not a land whale anymore.

I don't know if Roots has stores in the US any more (they use to have on in Salt Lake City) but they do have a website that targets Americans. Link They also made the uniforms for Team USA in the 2002 Olympics.

theflatline: I live an hour away from Disney, and have gone maybe five times in my 43 years.

I can see it being great if you have kids, maybe go once per each kid, but otherwise it is an incredibly boring place otherwise.  There is a guy in this thread who said he has been ten times, what kind of boring place do you live in where Disney is exciting?

As for as Epcot, I have twice to the Food festival, meh.  I went with a group of people and we stayed the weekend, then each spent about 300 bucks drinking over priced beer wit could have gotten in the grocery store.

With hotels it was around 650 a piece.  I could have taken a cruise, or a last minute trip to someplace fun.

The Parks are a little too manufactured for me.

I'm like an hour and a half away from Disney. We went once to the Magic Kingdom when I was 5, which is supposed to be the age that you make all these wonderful memories that keep you coming back or something, and while I had fun I never felt the urge to beg my parents to go back. My favorite memory was my younger sister screaming her head off on the merry go round. I've been to EPCOT a few more times, always for free for one reason or another, and we always agreed that while it was fun for free it wasn't fun enough to want to spend actual money there.

/Busch Gardens is the bomb though

WhippingBoy: SDRR: WhippingBoy: Screw the food, what I remember (vaguely) most about Epcot was the beer!

- Giant pints of Becks Dark in Germany
- A couple of yards in the English pub

Do they still let you drink there? To excess?

Regularly

It's the perfect family vacation. "Kids, run along an go see Mickey, daddy's got some drinking to do".

I was at Sea World once and there was this overweight white trashy man with two kids and he was buying beer at one of the booths. He seemed already inebriated and as he was walking away from the booth with his kids you could here the daughter complaining "DAAAAaaaaaaaaAAAD! You're spilling beer on us AGAIN!!"

Those poor kids =/

Now *that* response is crude, yet unrefined. Rather perfect for fark. In an 'I'm not sure if I hate the world more or less now" sort of way.

Thanks. It's always a little more difficult when the child doesn't look disabled. I assume just about every kid there is flying high, jumping or throwing a hissy of some kind.

Do they make allowances for a "special husband"? The apple does not fall far from the tree. :)

What you need is a Guest Assistance Card - you can get them at any guest services window at any of the parks. Just go up and let them know you need one and they will ask you what kind of accommodation you need. Tell them you need an alternate entrance, shaded line and/or quiet place to sit while waiting.  They will then give you a card listing the accommodations you require for you to use during your visit. Just show the card to the cast member at attraction entrances and they will take care of you from there. In some cases you will be taken through the exit and be  placed on the ride there. If available they will give you and your child a quiet place to sit while you wait.

If you want to talk more about taking a child with special needs to Disney drop me an email; address is in my fark profile.  Depending on how your child does with noises/crowds/etc you will want to plan out what to see and more importantly what to avoid. I can also refer you to a forum where you can talk to other parents of autistic children that are planning or have planned a trip to Disney .

wjllope: doczoidberg: Disney World is a blast...if you enjoy standing in line all farking day.

We worked the hell out of that fastpass system. There is no time limit on when you need to use a pass, but there is a limit on when you can request another pass. Those limits are like an hour first thing in the morning, and grow longer throughout the day.
If you do it right, by the time the park is filling up in the early afternoon, you have several passes for your favorite rides, and breeze right through 90% of the line for each just when the lines are getting long. We really loved that feature.

Not anymore. Several months ago they started enforcing the return during the hour stated on the Fastpass, or it was no longer valid. They fixed something that wasn't even broken.

Mr. Holmes: Assholes come in many sizes at Disney, whether it's scooters, strollers, or groups of 40 people who just kind of sweep you up in their wake. Knowing how to get through a crowd is definitely a must if you're going to Disney.

My CSB:

The ones who piss me off the most though are the jerks who just push past you. While at the ticket counter 2 weeks ago, I saw this old guy push his way through the ENTIRE LINE of about 100 or so people. Always saying "Scuse me, Pardon me" all the way through it.

Everybody just thought he was joining another group, but when he got to the front, he just skipped to the next window and started talking over the shoulder of the people who were STILL BUSY trying to get tickets. And then about 7 other people came through the exit and joined him. Nobody said a word, but he was getting some really dirty looks.

//Saw him in the park later. Wanted to knock his stupid hat off, but didn't.

You know what's even worse than the person you described? People like you that allow others to behave that way. Grow a pair and say something next time.

People just don't research & then wonder why their children are bouncing off the walls & weigh more at 5 than they did at 18. It's no wonder this country is in the shape it's in. If you actually read the labels on "diet" food it will shock you. The other day I went to get some sugar free pudding. I took the time to look at the label of the sugar loaded pudding. It had 1 carb more than the sugar free version. I was pretty shocked. So I said screw it & got the regular one. (It was my treat for the week)

Juice is something that's a bit shocking but not if you think about it. First off there is a lot of sugar in fruits. Second they usually add more sugar to it. To make it taste even sweeter. Companies know how addictive sugar is and they use that to their advantage. They suck people in by making them think something is more healthy than it actually is. Then load it up with sugar so people become addicted by it. It's quite sick. They don't care about the consumer. They just care how much money they are going to make in the end.

Yeah 16 years ago I was mocked for not giving apple juice. Things have certainly changed. I remember mums giving their kids coke but commenting in my poor parenting by allowing my son a sip of my coffee.

My personal fave is giving kids fruit cups and saying it is healthy.

Fat should not be acceptable.

Of course, you don't go around harassing people about their physical appearance, that should go without saying. But obesity is not in any way something that should be given even a modicum of respect. Feeling bad about being obese isn't the fault of others, it's caused by being obese (or having a serious psychological disorder whereby you think you're obese when you're not).

Obesity should be discouraged in the strongest possible terms. It is more dangerous than any other common failing. I would actually be surprised if chronic drug use has worse social and physical effects.

Let's make no mistake, though, fruit IS healthy.

In the exact same way that meat is healthy, carbohydrates are healthy, vegetables are healthy.

It's all about quantity and proportion.

It's disgusting. Parents put coke in sippy cups and then wonder why their 3yr old is 100lbs. Apple juice isn't bad if you cut it down with water. It might not taste as good but if they don't know better they'll be fine with it. If I ever have kids I don't plan on introducing sugar until they are older. There's no way my young child will ever have a sip of soda until they are a bit older. Then it will be on special occasions. Yes I'll be a bit strict but I also want to teach them good eating habits. This way they won't have to go through what I went through as a child. Also as an adult maybe they won't end up being a land whale. Children do like healthy food. Parents just don't give it to them because it's more convenient to give them a frozen dinner or fast food. We're slowly killing our children & shaking our heads wondering why it's happening. All while the answers are staring us right in the face.

I do really appreciate these stories and the feelings of anger and saddness they give me. But the one thing I am so thankful for is that these kinds of stories make me want to viist the gym more and eat a little healthier even though I'm 5'10" and weigh 186. As for being a male in his early 30's food is almost like porn for me anymore but no matter how horny I am I'm still not into feeder porn. Bleh!

EngineerAU: two towns over: TV's Vinnie: Those Mickey Mouse ice cream bars aren't gonna eat themselves you know.

One thing I didn't notice til now: Fatso is Canadian. That's a Roots bag, only sold up here...Huh

I don't know if Roots has stores in the US any more (they use to have on in Salt Lake City) but they do have a website that targets Americans. Link They also made the uniforms for Team USA in the 2002 Olympics.

I have a Roots backpack - they're available at gift shops conveniently located all over North America.

Canadian, but have lived amongst your people for many years. Have no fear, I always obey the Prime Directive.
