I have actually had mayonnaise pizza in Japan, and it was actually pretty good.

Kewpie brand Japaneese mayo is pretty good. Not like you'd think for US Mayo.

But on pizza..well...heck in Japan  that's nothing new, they put Kewpie mayo on lots of things.

We have a BLT pizza here in town with bacon, lettuce and tomato and mayo for the sauce.  Quite tasty.

They also put corn and squid on their pizzas. Hell, I think one of them has squid ink instead of tomato sauce.

Paradise roll: sushi with toasted mayonnaise.  Splendid on a cold winter's day.

Mayo and corn are apparently common pizza toppings in Moldova. Mayo is one of the three things I will not ever eat, in addition to eggs and offal, but the corn was basically drained whole kernel canned stuff... and it was surprisingly good.

I can't wait for the opportunity to go back to Eastern Europe, dammit.

fish scales and corn are also popular toppings. slanty eyed freaks.

I think the canned corn thing is a holdover from the post-WWII era. In Japan, at least.

Not as bad as half Canadian bacon and pineapple, half artichoke and pesto, light on the cheese. Anyway, how's your sex life?

Am I un-American if I admit that mayo and/or Miracle Whip both taste like wet snot and make me want to hurl?

I don't mind mayonnaise, I just can't stomach the thought of it hot.

That's just a step too weird for me. I know, Mayo is relatively tame to some of the things that ends up in Japanese foods (i.e. Pit Viper Venom Ice Cream) but, no, it's just too strange. I'd eat the sea food pizza I've heard of, I might even try the squid ink ice cream.

But the only place for mayo is in the fridge for guests, nowhere near my pizza.

Kewpie mayo is awesome. Once I discovered it, I can't go back to any of the American brands.

I think the corn on pizza thing is pretty much all of Asia. I had an American colleague when I was working in Vietnam who thought corn on pizza was great and would order all of his pizza with corn. I don't like the combo of corn on pizza, but seafood pizzas are pretty much the bomb.

It must be something from my childhood, but grandma would make salami and Miracle Whip. For some reason I still like MW with salami. Otherwise it's mustard, spicy please.

Dominos Japan has plenty of regular pizzas and some of them are actually edible. The only problem is that US-style pizza is ridiculously expensive; Dominos and Pizza Hut are $20 for a plain large and it only gets worse.

I was recently linked to an NY-style pizza place in Tokyo that charges $30+ for a plain large and up to $50 for many of their topped pizzas. It's a crime.

Kewpie mayo on a seafood pizza would probably be pretty decent. Kraft or something would be terrible.

With the exception of the shrimp pizza (hurk), I would nom every one of those. The first one just sounds like a giant potato skin, which is a good idea.

My favorite by-the-slice shop in San Diego makes one with buffalo sauce instead of marinara, chicken, mozzarella, and stripes of ranch drizzled on top. With fresh cilantro, sometimes.

The only things it should taste like are eggs, lemon and oil. Do they ramp up these flavors, or add something else.

Kewpie Mayo + fried bean sprouts = crazy delicious. yes, really. of course, I haven't had it since it was 12 since it's also about a zillion calories despite having bean sprouts. And, for that matter, this isnt the early 90s or earlier any more, the japanese shouldnt be eating mayo either. the days of petite japanese are long gone, hello large portions and junk food.

Hey, Dominos is the best of the chain pizza joints around here. Tasty homemade crust, toppings that look and taste fresh, and reasonably priced.

That said, I'd eat all of the above pizzas. We can't say much when people here put nasty anchovies on their pizzas.

/ also likes Miracle Whip

Here's an article that does a better job of explaining just why it's so great. Apparently it's got rice vinegar and uses yuzu instead of lemon.
