Greek: You hear the click- either the gun misfired, or the idiot forgot to chamber a round first.

Or he's a cat's paw, possibly in the employ of the man he was there to "assassinate" or his party.

You don't always have to give henchmen the full scoop, and you can equip them with bogus gear to make sure they can't botch your operations.

He could even have been just sending a message. Kind of like the horse head in the Godfather. "Our guys can reach you. Next time, the gun's loaded. You're not safe." kind of thing,

There's so many chances for it to be something that ISN'T a lone man attempting the assassination of a politician. It could be that, too, but who uses a blank gun when they've got two knives on them?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist at all. But, the whole thing doesn't look or sound right at all. Disarmed by his target after stalking right up on him? Within arm's reach? Where was his security? Why did they let him get that close to the man?

How did a man intending to kill another on live tv manage to let an elderly politician with no remarkable physical prowess disarm him?

And then have the target and all his friends beat him up on live tv?

This feels very out of the norm.

The guy looks amazingly shocked when nothing happens after he comes to a stop in front of his target. In fact, he either deliberately hesitates, or the gun doesn't fire.

Perhaps he forgot to take the safety off.

Or maybe the gun misfired and didn't shoot.

Or maybe whoever got him the gun got him a bad gun.

Whatever this was, it's not as simple as an assassination attempt. Assassins don't run up on stage with a short range pistol, and they certainly don't get disarmed by an old politician.

Dr.Zom: syrynxx: One other article on the event said it was a "gas pistol" - like perhaps it shot tear gas pellets, not actual bullets?

I saw that too. I'm guessing the guy works with the Green Hornet.

From wiki:

A gas pistol is a non-lethal weapon used for self-defense and other purposes. It is typically a close-to-exact replica or conversion of a real handgun made to be able to fire tear gas cartridges only. Effective range is up to 4.5 metres depending on caliber.

Apparently they can cause serious injury if fired at close range.

Gas guns are fatal at point blank range. Had the gun fired, he probably would have killed his target.

In other gun news, just 5 accidental shootings today at events celebrating "Gun Appreciation Day".

If by vigilante you mean people who were trying to keep from getting shot themselves.

Shot by a prone, disarmed man?

I'm not sure it was evident he was completely disarmed. Who knows what else he had.

I guess I just don't see it as an angry mob. I see it as a bunch of frightened people who want to make absolutely sure he can't hurt them. If a wild animal is trying to eat your face, do you fight it until it backs off a little or do you keep hitting until it's absolutely incapable of eating your face?

I think we have become so desensitized to events and so utterly suspicious of everything that the "this is fake" alarm bells ring prominently no matter what the situation is. Frankly, I believe this was a genuine assassination attempt and the politician is VERY LUCKY to be alive today.

I found the roughing up the would-be assassin had at the end unnecessary and somewhat disturbing, but I think too many posts make him out to be the victim, in typical libtard fashion. The guy almost killed their party leader - I wouldn't get a few licks in, but I am not too surprised that a few people vented some frustration on him. In any case, he is alive, and hopefully will be interrogated and can give us some idea about the motive for this crime, as well as who might have hired him (if indeed he was hired to do this.)

Why would an ethnic Turk would-be assassin go after an ethnic Turk politician? Speculation abounds. One theory is that he was hired to do it. Another theory is that the 25-year old is a "second-generation ethnic Turk" who has a political ax to grind against the ethnic Turks. Another possibility is that he is just a hooligan who wanted 15 min of fame. In any case, now that he has been captured, hopefully some answers will be forthcoming.

Awesome video.

Reminds me of when Dubya managed to dodge that shoe the guy threw at his head. That was the most impressive thing he did in his presidency, IMO.

Because an assassination attempt makes controversy and surviving makes you look cool.

Also, when a man has a gun, he can be a lot farther away. Coming up that close and pausing to let "victim" get his shiat together is the wrong way to assassinate someone with a pistol. He could have put a few rounds into the old man from 10' away instead of standing there waiting.

Almost as though the whole point was to make the politician look like an innocent man being targeted for assassination, and get a good photo op in the process.

See one post above you, and several other posts in this thread.

The would be assassin was Turkish, I've pretty much no reason to doubt it wasn't a legit attempt.

Yeah, IF it was a setup, the assassin wasn't in on it. He, at least, thought it was real. Because no way a fake assassin would let himself get beat up by a bunch of old men. I've also heard that Bulgarian security still has leftovers from the Soviet days in the back room, so unless THEY'RE in on the scheme, that guy is in for a bad night. He may be wishing he was back in Incirlik being abused by Turkish guards.

I, for one, would like to see my bodyguards reacting just a bit faster to that situation. You know, so I don't have to FIGHT A MAD GUNMAN BY MYSELF for five seconds.

Obviously Democratic plants sent there to stage the whole thing and discredit responsible gun owners, furthering Farbama's gun-grabbing agenda.
