skaya: ""You hear the click- either the gun misfired, or the idiot forgot to chamber a round first. If that had been successful, that politician would be dead or seriously injured.""

exactly.

And in fact when it doesn't go off the assailant steps back to try to unjam the weapon, and then he's mobbed as is target stumbles away

this sounds like your first date no?

TISH!

Reminds me of when Dubya managed to dodge that shoe the guy threw at his head. That was the most impressive thing he did in his presidency, IMO.

i love all the ass-assination experts in here...

"when i shot the president of Zombalgio, i stood right up there..one shot..right in the real estate..then..two more just to be sure...it's on my facebook...that was a 22 caliber penis enlarger made by Heckled My Koch."

stfu...

The guy with the umbrella is comedy gold.  It's almost too perfect to be true.  He's like the old guy in the Benny Hill shows getting his licks in.  Priceless.

gblive: wellreadneck: The vigilante mob was only slightly less disturbing than the assassination attempt.

Hey, if you attempt to assassinate someone then you deserve to get your butt kicked. My only question is why he was still conscious when they walked him off in hand-cuffs; pretty feeble vigilante mob. But when your vigilante leader appears to be an 80 year old with an umbrella, this is what you get.

That's also known as a lynching.

2013-01-19 11:29:46 PM

juvandy: It looked very poorly staged like a PR stunt to me... right up until a bunch of guys laid into the gunman with a bunch of very real, harmful kicks and punches. But maybe they weren't in on the act.

I dunno, there's a definite *click* right at the point where he should have pulled the trigger, and he immediately tries to re-chamber. I'm betting misfire or forgot to chamber a round. Could have been a very different video otherwise.

In some other articles I've seen they do state a misfire but it's the Internet. And I'm on my phone making linking difficult

If by vigilante you mean people who were trying to keep from getting shot themselves.

Shot by a prone, disarmed man?

No, you're not the only one amazed by this.

And by being amazed I mean that this video link posted on fark is only 12 hours behind Reddit.

Typically it takes 24-48 hours before fark catches up to Reddit posts.

Nope. I posted a link upthread.

Both could be true. If you have to hire a dumb assassin, you probably can't afford top-quality ammunition.

Hmm.

Wikipedia says that the politican is an ethnic Turk, and that his party represents the interests of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria.

It also says that the would-be assassin was an ethnic Turk himself. Why would he target him?

I think we have become so desensitized to events and so utterly suspicious of everything that the "this is fake" alarm bells ring prominently no matter what the situation is. Frankly, I believe this was a genuine assassination attempt and the politician is VERY LUCKY to be alive today.

I found the roughing up the would-be assassin had at the end unnecessary and somewhat disturbing, but I think too many posts make him out to be the victim, in typical libtard fashion. The guy almost killed their party leader - I wouldn't get a few licks in, but I am not too surprised that a few people vented some frustration on him. In any case, he is alive, and hopefully will be interrogated and can give us some idea about the motive for this crime, as well as who might have hired him (if indeed he was hired to do this.)

Why would an ethnic Turk would-be assassin go after an ethnic Turk politician? Speculation abounds. One theory is that he was hired to do it. Another theory is that the 25-year old is a "second-generation ethnic Turk" who has a political ax to grind against the ethnic Turks. Another possibility is that he is just a hooligan who wanted 15 min of fame. In any case, now that he has been captured, hopefully some answers will be forthcoming.

Awesome video.

For the same reason it was an orthodox Jew who assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, I would imagine, or it was a Hindu who shot Gandhi, or a member of the Nation of Islam who killed Malcolm X.

Just because the assassin is a member of the same group as the victim doesn't mean he likes him, you know?

Dummy. This is why you bring two guns, so if one doesn't work, you can use the other one and not get beaten up by a gang of old men *sigh*.

I mean, even the security people are so useless as to lead you away, walking and with your hands and arms unbound. Epic Fail, ethnic Turk guy.

Looking around, indications are it's an Ekol Volga 9mm PAK blank gun. It fires blanks, gunpowder propelled. It does NOT fire gas canisters, actually has nothing to do with 'gas' whatsoever, and is primarily sold as a practice weapon. It's apparently quite a bit more expensive than 40 BGN.

You can buy one here, apparently.http://www.replicaairguns.com/buy-air-blank-guns-us/#ecwid :category=22 15362&mode=product&product=11100436

Oh heck, buddy just do a youtube search and it comes right up. Interesting? Bullet cuts huge channel through brain killing him instantly. Dead before he hit the floor. Blood pouring out his mouth and nose. This is interesting how?

1) That has to be some of the worst security detail for a politician I've seen. Exactly what did everyone think a guy was doing coming up on stage during a speech?

B) I guess that karate guy from a few links down was right: when someone is trying to shoot you, they DO come right up to you within a foot or so to kill you. In which case his karate disarm movve would work. I'm sorry for making fun of you, karate dude.

I don't think anyone beating the guy was security. It looked to me like the security guys were trying to handcuff the dude when the angry mob pulled him away for a good beat down.

I'm not sure it was evident he was completely disarmed. Who knows what else he had.

I guess I just don't see it as an angry mob. I see it as a bunch of frightened people who want to make absolutely sure he can't hurt them. If a wild animal is trying to eat your face, do you fight it until it backs off a little or do you keep hitting until it's absolutely incapable of eating your face?

gadian: Even Bulgarians know this was a set up to make a failing leader look powerful.

Wow.

The guy is not even a major political leader. He is the head of an ethnic Turk party in Bulgaria, which might claim to represent the ~12% of Bulgarians who are ethnic Turks. The would-be assassin had some sort of credentials to attend that party's convention, quickly jumped on stage, and appears to fire before anyone knew what was going on. Luckily, the gun misfired, and the guy was quickly overwhelmed by security before he could do anything else.

The reason the security is not world class is because this is a random politician. This is not secret service grade security - more likely it was just local security staff for the venue.
