(Salon)   Columnist who wrote a scathing critique on Richard Marx is now getting calls and emails from Marx demanding a meeting and retraction, and Marx has vowed he won't stop until he's satisfied. Who knew criticizing Richard Marx was such a hazard?   (salon.com) divider line 101

There is a Farkette who is obsessed with Marx and only posts in threads about him.  Let's see if she shows up.

Marx's hair was goofy but he had a few good songs.

I was honestly surprised to find out Richard Marx was still alive. I have no idea why this surprises me.

Or in my world, "Who knew Richard Marx".

He is apparently an overly obsessed muscian.

You're a brave man. Your final question, who won the Cup Final in 1987?

2013-01-19 02:57:32 PM
He needs a reason to leave that old Nebraska town.

He should've known better.

My mental file on him has nothing but : goofy hair, not a Marx brother.

You know, at first at sided with the blogger, but then I read this paragraph written by Marx:

Here's my explanation. The internet, Twitter and blogs particularly, are a Utopian breeding ground for cowards. A place for small, frustrated people to spew vile, bitter shiat without fearing true retribution. But don't forget...Twitter, as well as your little blog, is a public forum. And in a world drowning a little more each day in apathy, I choose to occasionally call out the cowards, if only to briefly shine a big, bright light on their little yellow streak. Today, you became the poster-boy for Chickenshiat-itis.

Who the f*ck is Richard Marx?

2013-01-19 03:50:04 PM
Interesting. I follow Richard Marx on Twitter and haven't seen anything to indicate anything mentioned by that author.

In fact, Richard seems very humble and is very funny on twitter. Very real person from what I've seen.

2013-01-19 03:52:03 PM
So a guy named Dick Marx shouldn't expect this?

Marx's music was the blandest corporate rock of the 80s.

GO BACK TO RUSSIA, RICHARD MARX

2013-01-19 04:03:43 PM
Hey Edward McClelland,

Wherever you go, whatever you do, he will be right there waiting for you.

I'm certainly not going to white knight Richard Marx, but I've met him and he was genuinely nice and down-to-earth.

And I think he got the best of the writer here.

2013-01-19 04:15:09 PM
Someone should tell Edward that once he started the ball rolling it would be to late to say goodbye.

Richard sounds like he won't stop until he's satisfied.

Meh, just because someone has millions in the bank doesn't mean they aren't allowed to have feelings and lose the right to defend themselves, even if it's in a flailing, impotent way. There's plenty of annoying and stupid things about Twitter, but one of the funnier examples of it is when certain celebrities retweet and banter back and forth with blatant haters and trolls. A lot of humor would be missed out on if "the high road" was always taken.

2013-01-19 04:35:23 PM
Richard who?

2013-01-19 04:35:30 PM
I always figured he at least had a sense humor. I mean, come on, he called his second album Repeat Offender, didn't he?

St. Mirren. 1-0 against Dundee United in the final.

i can't believe a guy with that much money took the time for all that. superiority complex? inferiority complex? could go either way.

Michael Bolton once killed a homeless guy for spilling his busket on his stingray boots.

According to the Googlez, which is never wrong, Richard Marx has a net worth of $18mil.

But yeah, most who enter "the biz" do not leave nearly that wealthy.

LordOfThePings: You're a brave man. Your final question, who won the Cup Final in 1987?

The Oilers beat the Flyers 4 games to 3, despite the best efforts of Conn Smythe-winning goalie Ron Hextall.

Hey, you know what? Fark you. These things are going to be worth a fortune in 10 years when hammer pants come back in style.

FTFA: At first, I thought a reader was pulling my leg. Then Marx sent these tweets from his verified account: "You call me 'shameless' in print in my home town but won't respond to my emails to define/explain. I call #chickenshiat." That was followed by "Hey @TedMcClelland I'm running some errands. Should I stop and pick you up some tampons?"

I see. The latter tweet was intended as an insult, because women use tampons. And they're lesser people.

You rang? Although I do pop up in other threads from time to time ;-)

Have to say I'm loving all the good Richard references in this thread. Really beats all the idiots saying "Richard who?" Google is your friend :-) I can' only spread the good word of Marx so far.

This isn't the first time Richard has called someone out on their dishonesty. Did the same thing recently with a singer named Will Hoge.Did the same thing in the '80s with Adam Curry.

Is it a publicity attempt? Maybe. Does Richard have thin skin. Possibly, although I doubt it. People have been slagging him off for years and his career has endured. Perhaps he genuinely grows tired of the cowardly bullshiat. And for that I applaud him. his Twitter is usually a fun, random forum, but things like this come up from time to time. it happens.

Just read the article. I'm under 30 (not by much, admittedly. I'm 29) and I count myself amongst his biggest fans. I may be the minority, but I represent!

BTW- Richard is doing a live Twitter chat tomorrow, for anyone who may wonder why he's worth following, or if they have questions about this McClelland feud: Link

He's as candid with his fans as he is with anyone else in the media, or this McClelland dude. Check it out.
