I freaking love popcorn, so I decided to try jiffy pop for the first time last night. That shiat gave me diarrhea worse than if I had been eating nothing but KFC for a week straight.

Guess that's what happens when you eat a bag of trans fats after they've been banned from pretty much everything else.

My favorite popcorn:

1. Buy Kraft mac 'n cheese

You can buy cheese powder from a bulk food store. It might or might not be cheaper, but it reduces the amount of pasta and packaging thrown away. After experimenting, I find there is very little difference between mac & cheese made with powder and mac & cheese made with quality cheese. It's all the same.

I make most of my popcorn with garlic salt but one of my favourite flavourings is dillweed. Mmmmm ... butter and dill popcorn. Also goes great as a topping on tomato soup.

I use brown paper sandwich bags to microwave popcorn: the perfect size for one serving. Watch them carefully or the popcorn will burn, and then the paper. I set the microwave for three minutes and then wait until the pops become a few seconds apart.

Use a cubic inch of melted butter per serving (or margarine if you must). There's plenty of alternatives to salt, which is good, and anything is safer, healthier, greener and cheaper than those ready-to-pop chemical-infused bags.

Stove popped in oil, garlic salt and some ground rosemary. maybe a little black pepper if you want more zip. Popped in a pan with oil though.. that's the only way.

Years ago our local theater ran a promotion where they offered a giant plastic bucket for the one time price of $20 and you could get unlimited refills for just .50 each. My ex and I used to rent movies and drop by the theater for a bucket to take home. That was such a great deal for popcorn lovers like us!
