I am sorry but no one will ever be as good as her

Sorry...  I just had a picture of a 70-year old Janis in my head.

Either that, or I'm getting ready to fap to Carol Channing again.

God...  this is a rough morning.

42 years ago Janis Joplin died of a drug overdoes at the age of 27, proving that drugs are indeed dangerous.

Yeah, and Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper died on Feb 3, 1959, proving planes are indeed dangerous.

Dont diss it unless you have tried it

The problem lieth not with heroin, but the user of heroin. The heroin doesnt know what its doing; but the user does.

Oh, and fark George Carlin for saying white people shouldn't sing blues. When you've been voted "ugliest guy on campus", and you're a girl, you've got a reason to sing the blues.

I read somewhere that by the time she got a record deal, her voice wasn't even close to what it had been.

If she always sang so full-on as she did on her albums, I can see where she would have blown her voice up before getting a recording deal.

I think she always went full out at everything. Which was kind of a problem in the end.

I always wondered what woulda been....
I keep coming back to images of Janis in Vegas, then downgrading to Laughlin.
I wish we could have had her around for a few more years, but I fear what would have happened after that.

I agree. 27 was way too young, and I think she was really hitting her stride toward the end there. I'd have loved about 10-15 more years. Anything more, and we'd be making fun of her for being a vegetable instead of Keith Richards.

Who is this woman and why is she pretending to be Adele?

I keed, I keed.

I wish we could have had her around for at least another decade or two or three. By 70, she would be writing one hell of a tell-all bio (available on an eBook near you). I almost wonder if there is a law written down somewhere that the ones who burn the brightest get taken away early.

Oh, well. At least we still have Nicki Minage and Ke$ha!

(I'm just in a trolling mood today. Sorry!)

My room gets dusty when I listen to Janis

2013-01-19 09:50:33 PM
Janis blew me away the first time I heard her. A teenager from Oklahoma visiting SF for the first time in 1969 and I walked into a record store in the Haight. I asked a girl working there what music was playing in the store and she just shook her head like I was from Mars and said "That's Big Brother, Man." . Bought Cheap Thrills and took it on back to OKC and played the hell out of it. My girlfriend even did a striptease for me to "Turtle Blues". Still think about that every time I hear the song. RIP, Pearl. You would have made a kick-ass old lady.

You're not wrong.

Dying made Joplin, Morrison, Hendrix, Lennon,Cobain, and many others into legends when, if they had lived, odds are the quality of their music would have declined or they would have wound up like Carlos Santana or something.
