Didn't they try this already and fail? I seem to remember a big push here in the northeast from Krispy Kreme that withered and died against the monolith that is Dunkin' Donuts.

Last I remember of KK, they don't have cake style donuts, only yeast style. Cake style donuts are where it's at.

Teufelaffe: GypsyJoker: Dunkin' Donuts >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Krispy Kreme

This

KK sucks. If the only time your donuts are tasty is the first 30 seconds after being removed the production line, you're making shiatty donuts.

You're correct - if they are only good hot out of the fat, you have a problem.

I could well be mis-remembering this didn't KK become popular because Bill Clinton or somebody on his staff loved them? It was faddish, kind of like Jelly Belly jelly beans when Reagan was in office. If I am not again mistaken, hasn't their popularity been more or less waning ever since?

Since they're a business and having more stores would offer more jobs, I wish them well. But I probably won't rush out to buy their stock. I know they've recovered from their 09 lows, as have most companies, but they're nowhere near their 10 and 20 year highs.

gridlocksammy: Dunkin Donuts has the edge when it comes to their  coffee, but for a real religious experience nothing and I mean nothing compares to a fresh out of the oven Krispy Kreme doughnut. Those things will give your mouth an orgasm.

That's because the "oven" is a vat of boiling lard.

Mmmmm... lard.

Well, I just hope that KK revamps the way they do business.  I honestly do not understand why they would set up a business model that causes direct competition between corporate and franchisees.

Most of its existing stores are owned by franchisees abroad. There are 506 international Krispy Kremes, including the first store in India, which opened this week.  Saudi Arabia, with 95, has the most.

What other US-based brands are more successful overseas than in the US?
