Smackledorfer: Can't watch the vid on my cellphone.

Let me guess the guy with the gun is neither falling back to a defensive position nor even bladed off to use his support hand to aid with weapon retention?

/tired of goofy videos that have an inept gun user against a super expert martial artist/knife wielder/etc.

The dude with the gub points it at Victor's head, roughly six inches away. Victor stands there, adjusting his stance and concentrating,  for ~3.5 seconds. Victor then, lightning-quick, snatches the gun.

One of the reasons I stopped watching UFC a long time ago was that during the pre-match interviews a lot of the guys would brag about how they had invented their own kind of martial art. Then the match would start and after a couple punches it was just two guys hugging each other on the floor.

I have been a big fan of MMA ever since the early 90's. I sorely miss the days where some phony McDojo scammer would drink enough of his own kool aid and start to believe his own laughably superhuman and even supernatural claims of fighting ability. They'd step into the cage and within 10 seconds of for reals fighting all those pretty spinning kicks and flowery looking stances and katas would be abandoned faster than a prom night dumpster baby and it looked like EVERY fight you ever saw since 3rd grade recess.

Too many people think the martial arts they see in the movies actually work like that.

I used to watch a lot of the early UFCs back when you had a lot of different types of martial artists, and yes the Kung Fu and Tae Kwan Do type folks with pretty but too slow to actually use spins kicks got their asses beat. About the only striking form that did very good back in the day before standardized MMA was Muy Thai kick boxing, other than that it was the grappling forms like Brazilian Jiu Jitzu and Judo and Wrestling (like olympic not WWE) that walked the dog.

In kung fus defense wasn't it designed as a defense against armed bandits and incorporated weapons?

I'm no martial arts study but I've always felt it shouldn't be lumped in with american karate.

Funny thing, your arts go back to when the Governing Diety siezed all the swords and made possession a capital offence.
Garden tools repurposed and practiced defence became a way of life.
Glad that could never happen here.
I mean, my sword is my friend and I am glad I am empowered with mine own defence.
