It says something about the fans of UFC in that they like watching men engage in something that has homoerotic overtures.

All that eye contact turns you on doesn't sweetheart ?

Fuggin Bizzy: vossiewulf: The guy spends a lifetime perfecting a technique which can be defeated by... standing two feet farther away.

This. When I took karate in high school, our instructor showed us this technique. One of the other students asked "What if the guy with the gun is across the street from you?"

"Duck behind a car."

Heh. That's fast, no doubt, but yeah - two feet, a driver's side window, moving shooter ... any variable changes in that equation, and the technique is nice in theory.

That was the instruction we had.  If you can leave, leave.  If you can't, and he has fists, pick up a stick, etc...   but if all else fails, then here is an option (hit him where it hurts, then leave)...

So, according to you, he has to look like Mr. Miyagi or Lo Pan before he can achieve such a high skill level?

Anderson's Pooper: Pocket Ninja: You'd think that drinking all that beer would slow his reaction time.

And I prefer the much more tried-and-tested martial arts technique of disarming a gun-wielding attacked by throwing a spinning hook that sends the gun sailing from the assailant's hand. Another good option, if you are actually looking to take control of the weapon, is to do a jumping front snap kick that hits the bottom of the attacker's hand. This will cause the gun to go spinning up in the air over the attacker's head. You can then throw another snap kick to his stomach and follow that up (while he's doubled over with pain) with another kick to his head, which will knock him out of the way and possibly off his feet. Then you can leap forward (a roll will work here if you need to cover more ground) and catch then gun as it begins to fall. Remain in your defensive crouch with the weapon trained on your attacker until you are confident that the area is clear.

A true ninja response!

No, the ninja response was posted earlier. You just didn't see it.

I would have like to see him demonstrate this technique on other stances such as a two hand grip, holding the gun at the hip and holding the gun gangsta stile.

I know Marx -- I've seen him do the drill with snap cap rounds in the gun and ask the bad guy to try to shoot him. Doesn't happen.

I know him too. I did the drill with him in Anaheim once. I got off all 6 shots and reloaded. Three of them would have been fatal, plus a headshot.

Oh yay. It's choreographed martial LARPing. I never get tired of pasty egotists in pajamas lining their marks students up just so and doing stunts with them.

Once you remove resistance from your practice, the human body becomes an abstract shape to be manipulated in space and all kinds of whacky bullshiat looks like it might work.

I may have missed a comment earlier, but, if he had the gun, why pop the clip? The gun is not even unloaded yet because there is one in the chamber, if that was his goal.
Nits are worth picking

What happens when the guy holds the gun sideways? How's the dude's technique then?

I'll be impressed when someone puts their finger in the barrel and stops a bullet from leaving the gun.

Did anyone see the Mythbusters with the "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" myth?

I agree if the gun is drawn your screwed. But if you are in a stare down and one guy is packing and the other guy is a matial arts master ( or carrying a knife) then the advantage does to the unarmed guy in distances under 21 feet.
Basically while the guy with the gun is fumbling to get it in a position to shoot, the other guy has closed the distance and done some damage.

I really like how the bad guy here is dressed like a real cool dude from '92. Or a dork from now. On another note, I used to frequent a bar in Knoxville, TN that was across the street from a kung fu dojo/gym/I don't know what they're called. It was shaped like a huge red barn, so obviously we all called it the Kung Fu Barn. And the guy who owned it or was the head teacher was named Leroy. This is the kinda guy who would be tiptoe jumping stump to stump while doing crazy sword practice in the middle of the day. So you had Kung Fu Leroy at the Kung Fu Barn in Tennessee and it was awesome. One of my good buddies (also a regular) was friends with Leroy (not a hillbilly) and the two of them would occasionally get loaded and spar. It's good fun watching a tiny little dude kick the shiat out someone 1.5x his weight and 5" taller.

/I know nothing about martial arts.
//Kung Fu Leroy's a badass

Can't watch the vid on my cellphone.

Let me guess the guy with the gun is neither falling back to a defensive position nor even bladed off to use his support hand to aid with weapon retention?

/tired of goofy videos that have an inept gun user against a super expert martial artist/knife wielder/etc.

I don't have sound so I must have missed something.
Does someone say "ready, set GO!" or does the dude just wait till he's ready and snatch the gun?

From that close, I was taught to start pulling trigger once the barrel breaks the plane of the belt buckle, and keep shooting until either the foe stops wiggling or I run out of bullets.

They're all a bunch of rehearsed and choreographed compliant demonstrations with the "attacker" just standing there and waiting for Marx to take their obviously poorly held weapon away from them. They are most likely students of his to boot.

It's a parlour trick. Nothing more.

2013-01-19 06:29:54 PM
Ah - Karl W. Marx. Thought that butthead looked familiar. He's been running a line of bullshiat for decades now.

2013-01-19 06:32:23 PM

One Bad Apple: Too many people think the martial arts they see in the movies actually work like that.

And, this. I personally like watching folks use "techniques" learned in light-contact sparring or competition against a determined opponent.

I love the "point pause", personally.

2013-01-19 06:36:12 PM

a61sun: He is attempting to set a record, not trying to save his life. Much like a high jumper is going for the highest jump, he is attempting the fastest disarm. Nobody is shooting at him, he is just displaying the quickest disarm for the record.  Folks here are saying "well if the shooter was X feet away, that'd NEVER work!" While being true, that is not the point here.

....just saying

The point is that the guy has been a blight on the martial arts community for years and years, but he thinks he's found a loophole on which he can hang a real credential (instead of all the fake ones he's claimed over the decades) by both establishing a standard "test" for the fastest disarm and then practicing just that move.

He's a dick. He makes Frank Dux look honest by comparison.
