As a resident of Chicago, I will add this to my list of shiat to worry about. Right under getting shot by a gangbanger, getting raped by the government and freezing to death.

I occasionally travel for training for work and one of the first things I do when picking a hotel is fire up Bedbug Registry. Never stay in a hotel with any reports, EVER, and never stay in a "clear" hotel surrounded by reports. So far, so good...

Went up to NJ for training last fall and the travel booking system suggested a hotel in Manhattan. Searched BBR and immediately went "OH FARK NO I AM NEVER SLEEPING IN NYC EVER!!!!"

Insurgent:

i use alcohol to control bed bugs. and only for that purpose alone.

But they have to bite you to get any. And if they get to like it you'll get bit more often. Suicide is easier.

I got bedbugs in the late summer and got rid of them because I saw them before they'd established themselves. Just plain lucky.

A few months ago I got freaked out at work when I found what I thought was a bedbug. As it turns out, the little bastards have an almost physically identical cousin called the batbug (the differences are microscopic). Unknownst to us, we had a nest of bats in our workplace--but thankfully they are all gone now--bats and batbugs.

/shops thrift stores all the time, but leaves the clothes to bake in a hot summer car or throws them into a dryer during the winter.
