When will these murder vehicles be taken off the streets?!

I see them everywhere. The roads are now clear, but them old people drive 15 miles under the speed limit because they are 6 feet near snow on the side of the road.

Drove past this accident today. If you know anything about Boise, the drivers from Emmett (like this lady) are the dumbest drivers in the whole state. Even the old farts have no fear.

I think it's important to understand that if there happened to be another law abiding citizen nearby driving a legally obtained Toyota Camry, this senseless tragedy could have been prevented. Drivers hit school buses, not Camrys. Taking away the right of decent citizens to legally obtain Camrys puts our children in greater peril since that would mean that eye test failing septuagenarians would be the only ones with them. If anything, there should be a motorcade of Camrys accompanying all school buses nationwide.

As far as I know, it's mainly money at this point. It would cost too much to retrofit buses with seatbelts now.

I don't know why they didn't make them with seatbelts in the first place, though. If nothing else, it teaches kids that seatbelts are arbitrary and stupid; "If they were so safe, we'd have to wear them on the bus, right?"

I see that all the time on 6th and Idaho. One day last summer I saw 3 different cars go the wrong way up 6th street within the course of like 2 hours. I don't know what's so tough about the one-way grid, but whatever.

They're talking about COMMERCIAL BUSES.

No mention made their of school buses - none whatsoever.

That, and the delays that would be caused by the driver making sure everyone is buckled in at every stop before the bus moves.

Also, school buses are such overwhelmingly safe vehicles compared to passenger cars that the payoff in terms of lives saved per dollar spent would be minimal.

I've done that. Sober. Recently. And I've lived here 20 years.

You might have been one of the people I yelled at to not turn that direction. The best one, though, is the car that drove almost to the capitol on 6th the wrong way. They didn't figure it out in the first couple blocks that there were no lights and that all the parked cars were facing the other direction. I nearly facepalmed myself into unconsciousness that day.

Haha yup i was very sober last night. It was going down 8th street at the Co op and i had no clue 2 way ended.

Seat belts don't increase safety in a school bus as much as they do they do in cars. This is due to the design of buses (speed, height, weight, seat compartmentalization, etc).

They also make evacuating buses (e.g. In a fire) much more difficult.

By far, the most dangerous part of riding a school bus is getting off and on (traffic).

This is the one I've hear. Imagine the bus being on fire and a bunch of 6 or 7 year-olds strapped in and freaking out. I don't think they'd be mentally equipped to stay calm and unbuckle themselves.

As I understand it, it's a lot about the mass of the vehicle versus the mass of the other vehicle, and another part statistics. The kids on the bus are fairly safe without seatbelts because the bus is heavy enough that in the vast majority of crashes, the bus only slightly deflects direction or position. A car or a light truck slamming into the bus at even fairly high speed doesn't put much force on the bus. As to the statistics side, certainly a heavy vehicle, like medium or heavy truck or a bus could affect the bus due to to similar or greater mass, but those accidents are extraordinarily rare, so the hassles that go along with protecting against those kinds of wrecks are not worthwhile.

I was surprised by how little damage we see on the car. It looks to me like she tried to swerve around the bus to her right and clipped it somehow. The school district probably took kids to the hospital since it's easier to appease parents by spending a little money on what amount to checkups than to not and find that one kid got hurt worse than the rest and that it wasn't caught.
