Dear troll,

Some of us get two meals out of a 'footlong', and would really prefer that it actually be a foot long, as advertised.

Sincerely,

Non-fatty

Dear Subway, if a foot long isn't a unit of measure... please take my payment of $4.50 as 'close enough'

I am sure you are going to miss that extra quarter inch in each of your two meals

I blame the metric system

2013-01-18 03:32:15 PM
I'll bet a jury would disagree. Heeeeeere comes the lawsuit! Considering they've cheated me outta 30 inches or so last year, that should entitle me to a whole 12.50 (minus 5.00 for the lawyers of course)

Would you be ok getting shorted 4% of every gallon of gas you buy? If they decided 'gallon' was just a marketing term? And didn't bother to tell anyone? The point isn't the .5" itself, it's the b.s. marketing crap they're trying to hide behind.

this is literally the saddest thing I have ever seen anyone up in arms about

2013-01-18 04:02:44 PM
The marketing campaign argument is actually pretty compelling.

2013-01-18 04:04:29 PM
That's an awful argument. They should have gone for the "significant digits" tack.

do you cry irl when you order a six inch and the bread isn't cut in the exact centroid of the loaf

justtray: The marketing campaign argument is actually pretty compelling.

It would be, except they also specify six inch subs, and they'd be hard pressed to explain how they get two of those from a "FOOTLONG" piece of bread. I know, they're supposed to be cut on the diagonal, right? I'd yours wasn't, that's the fault of the individual sandwich artist, not anyone at corporate.

c'mon, try not to be too much of an ass here. obviously, where the farking sandwich is cut is irrelevant to the actual size. if it's an ACTUAL foot, any cut will yield two pieces that total a foot.

btw: you're taking this far too seriously. are you perhaps a 'sandwich artist' irl?

vudutek: you're taking this far too seriously

hah it is pretty amazing that you have the lack of self-awareness to actually type that sentence

2013-01-18 04:35:55 PM
Anyway, the reason the length of the sandwich literally does not matter is this: Every piece of subway bread is the same weight before being proofed and cooked, and the meat and veggie portions are standardized. You get your six pieces of turkey and whatever weight of bread regardless if it is 11" or it was stretched a little bit more before proofing and it is 13".

i'm quite aware of how unimportant .5" of a sandwich is. unfortunately, that's the only point you seem to consider important. the important discussion should be regarding false advertising and the associated corporate b.s.

now, go make me a sammich.

2013-01-18 04:45:27 PM
It's BS like this that reminds of why I make my sandwiches at home, or at least go someplace that isn't primarily identified as "cheap" before "good"....

vudutek: the important discussion should be regarding false advertising and the associated corporate b.s.

Yeah, because no company ever lies.  It's just Subway.

2013-01-18 05:21:15 PM
the only good thing about subways vs jersey mikes is the bread choices. But, that aside- meh.
/also gets 2 meals out of a "footlong"

2013-01-18 05:27:06 PM
Is it a unit of time, like a parsec?

Yeah, they already do that. It's called "10% Ethanol"

2013-01-18 05:32:33 PM
They should clearly measure in cubits.

My Merrill Lynch guy just advised to buy Subway.

That's what *she* said....

2013-01-18 05:33:38 PM
I KNEW they were going to say this when the controversy broke. Really, really stupid thing to say as well as an invitation to state and federal regulatory bodies to start taking a look at it.

2013-01-18 05:34:40 PM
Because of this controversy, I'm going to Subway tonight, and have one of their new Pastramis, hold the farking ruler.

2013-01-18 05:35:06 PM
I can't wait to hear the new jingle for "$5 Footlongs Plus or Minus 5% of the Linear Length"

That's fine, but they should build a campaign on the weight of the sandwich rather than the length if that's what they're going with.

/doesn't eat at Subway

"A foot is not a unit of measurement."

"A foot is not a unit of measurement."

Clearly this is due to shrinkage.

Its not about the extra inch (giggity) its about false advertising.

2013-01-18 05:36:33 PM
Honestly, it's your own fault if you're still eating what Subway passes off as "sandwiches."

And I say this as someone who still drops in there once every month or so for a meatball.

2013-01-18 05:36:37 PM
I think Subway sucks ballz. Boring, bland, craptastic food.

This is a controversy?

fawlty: an invitation to state and federal regulatory bodies to start taking a look at it.

This is a joke, right?

2013-01-18 05:37:09 PM
It's amazing any of these companies exist after the flood of successful lawsuits about their food not looking anything like it does in their advertisements.

Oh wait, that never happened.

Carry on.

2013-01-18 05:37:13 PM

Mugato: Is it a unit of time, like a parsec?

You know damn well that the parsec is only a unit of time for ships making the Kessel Run.

2013-01-18 05:37:27 PM
Thank god we have the media protecting our sandwiches. We need more heroes in the 4th estate like the two brave muckrakers that against all odds brought light unto this dark subject to remind us just why this country has the freedom of the press.

2013-01-18 05:37:44 PM
first they mess us around with 2x4s that aren't 2"x4" and now this. OOOBAAAAMAAAA!

Interestingly, that quote does not appear anywhere in the article. I suggest you start by stabbing subby for making you post something so silly.

Rustybumperjack: I think Subway sucks ballz. Boring, bland, craptastic food.

That as may be, but when you're on a long road trip and you've suffered through one-too-many McDonald's gut bombs the yellow Subway sign in the distance is akin to a light from heaven.

Definitely would NOT bake it. Just look at those round edges. This bread is way below our standards.

2013-01-18 05:39:18 PM
What's all the hubbub about? If you take both slices of bread and lay them end-to-end, you have 22 inches! C'mon folks, lateral thinking, here.

2013-01-18 05:40:30 PM
If I actually ate Subway sandwiches, I'd consider discontinuing that practice based on their second paragraph. What a load of crap. They've got an obvious QA problem and now they're trying to pretend that they never actually promised a sandwich that's a foot long. They promised a footlong sandwich and footlong is just a marketing term they dreamed up, not to be confused with a sandwich that is a foot long.

2013-01-18 05:40:48 PM
This is not about a goddamn sandwich, Its about false advertising get that straight.

2013-01-18 05:40:54 PM
What does it say when no one is suprised by public displays of Full Retard by the Media, Business Captains and "elected" shills?

This is change we cannot believe in and do not need.

/give your troubles to anyfarkingbody, just don't be self responsible or forthcomming
//all the heros nominated from my youth as role models turned out to be lyers, cheaters, dopers or pederasts

We really could use an actual leader. Damned herd animals are useless w/o one.
