She is the Queen of Canada, so that might explain it.

Well if our neighbors to the north want any real respect, and for the world to not just consider them America Jr., they should grow a set and declare independence, like we did.

or maybe we're just a helluva more tolerant of old queens up here.

You sound like you're from a poor country, with high unemployment.

We did declare independence, we just did it using a politely written post-it note asking if it was ok if we sort of, maybe, went our own separate ways but that we'd still totally be friends and things wouldn't get weird.

I thought Scott Thompson was the Queen of Canada

Definitely Norway Maple in that pic. That's appalling - just about as bad as the sickly green of those new 20s.

Meh, could be worse: the Statue of Liberty on US stamps isn't the real one -- its a picture of the Statue of Liberty at the New York - New York casino in Las Vegas.

For the most part, both the article and the comments here suck. It is "Norway" (not Norwegian) maple vs. "Sugar" (not Canadian) maple.

I expect this in the fark comments....then again, I expect this from today's journalists too.

Because she is also the Queen of Canada. That has nothing (legally at least) to do with her being the Queen of England btw. It is a seperate position.

ImmaculateContraception: Independence from what, exactly? Canada isn't a British colony anymore.

Yeah, isn't her role as queen of Canada officially separate from her role as queen of the United Kingdom (and Jamaica, Australia, New Zealand, etc.)? Not really sure how that works, but I think it's the case.

Does one have to choke a biatch?

I have bad news for you. She well might be on Canada's money at least a dozen more years. That is not unreasonable to expect. Remember that her mother stayed in good health all the way until she died at age 104. I've been saying for years that she well might outlive Charles and give the kingship to William.

How is it any less Canadian than the Sugar Maple?

"Norwgeian" maple is invasive -- the sugar maples' been around since mammoths were peeing on them.

It may be considered invasive in some areas, but they are all over the east coast. It isn't like the tree is unknown outside of Europe. They are everywhere in NA.

I can't get the cap off!: Hasn't the Norwegian Maple been growing in geographical Canada since before the nation of Canada even existed?

rattchett: As I was telling my buddy, this is the stupidest controversy in the history of Canada. Which is saying something in this beaver loving, syrup sucking nation. Jesus - if it's not this it's a multi-million dollar syrup heist or some guy stealing a tractor trailer full of beer.

Or robocalls or pipeline or Jimmy's CTRC shenanigans.
