I got one of those on my last trip to Montreal. Look through the maple leaf at a point light and you see a wicked cool hologram with anti-counterfeit goodness. I keep it for the novelty.

US money sucks in comparison. When will we learn?

Well if our neighbors to the north want any real respect, and for the world to not just consider them America Jr., they should grow a set and declare independence, like we did.

Umm....Canada is an independent and sovereign state. It has a Queen, who is the head of state.

And they have to share her with a bunch of other countries:

Because she is also the Queen of Canada. That has nothing (legally at least) to do with her being the Queen of England btw. It is a seperate position.

For the most part, both the article and the comments here suck. It is "Norway" (not Norwegian) maple vs. "Sugar" (not Canadian) maple.

I expect this in the fark comments....then again, I expect this from today's journalists too.

"Quick quiz: You're the Bank of Canada designing a new $20 bill. Do you use a Canadian or Norwgeian maple leaf?"

Well first obvious question is: a laden or unladen maple leaf?

2013-01-18 03:25:53 PM
So by my count we have the Queen of England, a Norwegian Maple leaf, and a war memorial in France. The only thing it's missing is a shot of the American side of Niagara Falls.

Does one have to choke a biatch?

I have bad news for you. She well might be on Canada's money at least a dozen more years. That is not unreasonable to expect. Remember that her mother stayed in good health all the way until she died at age 104. I've been saying for years that she well might outlive Charles and give the kingship to William.

Then will Canada put the new Queen's own royal bewbies on the $20?

/$100?

Unless you know something the rest of us don't know, I'm not expecting spectacular royal bewbies from William. Or less likely Charles.

Is that an African Maple Leaf, or is that a European Maple Leaf? What is their airspeed when overladen and falling in Toronto?

2013-01-18 03:43:08 PM
The branch arrangement of the maple leaf on the Canadian penny also has an error that has never been corrected and doesn't look like any native species either.

They probably fired their botanists so they had extra cash to spare for the Canadian Mint. I swear they make new coins for every little thing that happens.

2013-01-18 03:48:58 PM
It could be worse.  They could have left off anything Norway related like the 2 Euro coin did a few years ago

Compared with a flaccid penis, a misshaped leaf isn't so bad

Oh yeah, I know it's a big deal for Canadians (first time the entire Canadian contingent fought together, right?). I just found it funny that they chose a memorial in France (even if on Canadian land) and put it alongside two other non-native icons.

Canada still has a Queen because we would have to change our constitution to get rid of her. Every time we open the constitution to changes, Quebec goes full pants-on-head retarded trying to get their special snowflake status made law. It's worth keeping a foreign mascot on our money to not have to deal with a bunch of moronic banshees wailing about how nobody understands how feels to be so distinct.

The worst of the new designs has been for the $100. On the back of it is a celebration of Canada's contribution to science.
The three things being celebrated in the images and iconography are:

• The development of insulin by Frederick Banting and Charles Best.
• The invention of the pacemaker by John Hopps.
* The (largely) computer generated mapping of the human genome by  Dr. Tom Hudson.

And what did they do? Put an unnamed woman scientist on the money, apparently staring at a 1970s-era microscope. Because, um...girls need to be encouraged in science by teaching false history.
