Of course, NBC needs the Penguins to be good. Needs to push Crosby as an unassailable force of greatness. They will recap the events of last year's playoffs and will not admit that 90% of the ugliness was directly the fault of Pittsburgh's cowardice and thuggery.

So I'm really torn on if I buy center ice this year. Its only 50 bucks, but with the condensed schedule pretty much all the great games are going to be on NHL or NBC\NBCSN. Plus I already get the rangers\devs\isles games. By my math it looks like I'd only not get about 16 flyers games, almost all on weeknights.

Decisions....decisions....

Also trying to decide if I want to get a new jersey this year. I don't have one for any active players on our team right now. I'd love to stick it to the NHL, but i so want a Hartnell jersey.

Thanks, NBC, for giving us the Penguins instead of the home opener of the defending Stanley Cup champions.

/Nothing But Crosby.

Sorry - no 'merikun network can film adequate hockey coverage. Face it - your necks are too dang fat to follow a puck at high speed.

in NBC's defense, they are doing the banner raising and first 10 minutes or so of the game for everyone. They will then split the country up at 3:30, with the east getting the Flyers\Pens, which is honestly going to be the more interesting game.

2013-01-18 11:57:36 AM
Also center ice is doing a free preview until the end of the month (you may need to call your provider to ask for it though). So you should be able to watch whatever game you want. It would have been nice though if they just put a crapload of games on every NBC channel for the day to get people fired up.

Was going to go to the Blues/Wings opener, until I saw that tickets are $75+. I guess that's good that they're selling, but I assumed there'd be some sort of "please come back!" promotion.

The Blues must not need them.

Watching the raising of the banner in Sunrise tomorrow!! Can't wait!!

\Okay, so it's just a Southeast Division Champs banner, but still.

In more important news, Hockey Night in Canada returns on Saturday.

Thank you, Comcast, for finally adding CBC HD last year.

I'm happy that NBCSN is on the lower tier i moved to so i can watch games this season. Also whoever said they should put games on CNBC or MSNBC on weekends is 100% correct. I'd totally throw them on and watch.

/Flyers suck
/not a Pens fan really just hate Philly that much

1) The506.com has the coverage map for tomorrow's NBC games. Eastern conference markets + Columbus gets Pens-Flyers with Doc and Sydney's not-so-secret lover. Everyone else gets Hawks-Kings.

2)

lordjupiter: Get rid of shrieky Emrick

Do NOT disrespect Doc.

3) NBC farking up the promo makes no damn sense. Who owns the Flyers? Comcast. Who owns NBC? Comcast. WTF, NBC?

i'm giving NBCSN the benefit of the doubt. Their MLS coverage is pretty good. I hope they do well with EPL this summer.

Don't care if it's going to be an interesting game or not, NBC loves the Penguins. Opening weekend, NBC has the Penguins. Two weeks later (their next broadcast), NBC has the Penguins. A week off to show the Wings/Kings, then it's the Penguins. Can we get a goddamn Canadian team on NBC?

Center Ice makes it hard to watch a game because I CAN'T DECIDE!

Considering that even ESPN's coverage is basically the world feed, but with Ian and Macca commentating; there's very few ways for NBC to mess up. If they just have 1 or 2 of their own broadcast teams and use the world feed for the rest; they'll be fine.

Yes, no-one can truly do hockey like NBC. I almost wanted to miss the non-CBC playoff games. Could they get a director and camera crew who know what the fark directing and shooting a hockey game means? And don't get me started on Doc.

Subby didn't fail. NBC did. Subby told you exactly what NBC was doing- claiming the Flyers were knocked out by the Penguins.

Its funny because flyers fan's don't really try and hide the fact that we can be thugs when needed. The Pens try and come off all high and mighty about how they play

4 out of the 6 Canadian teams sucked last year so why put them on US national TV? In case you haven't noticed, americans tend to only watch american teams compete (have you watched Olympics coverage) and when a Canadian team hasn't won the cup in what seams forever, why would NBC feature those teams?

Go watch CBC or TSN if you want canadian teams. Do you see me complaining that TSN covers Edmonton more than they cover Kings?

I'm going to the Jackets home opener on Monday. 2 tickets for 26 dollars, a tshirt, hot dog, popcorn and a drink. And they are actually going to sell out

2013-01-18 12:37:32 PM
I'm a little surprised there isn't more backlash from the paying customers. I figured a large enough percentage of hockey fans would be sufficiently pissed that ticket sales would be sluggish but it seems like everybody is clamoring for as many tickets as they can get their hands on.

Wow, I knew some front offices were tightening their belts but asking people to bring in food to donate to the employees is way off the chart...

I think someone referred to it has being like battered wife syndrome- you should know that you shouldn't go back but you can't help it. As much as I don't like it, I feel the same way. I just have other factors keeping me away for the moment (not all of them related to my team or the NHL).

ITGs were all about boycotting NHL but we all know those guys never leave their mom's basements so it wasn't going to really hit the ticket sales.

Hockey is a nitche sport and the fans are die-hard fans that will put up with lockout crap every few years because they love the game. When the local team is doing good in playoffs you have more people jump on the bandwagon but as a sport hockey will never be huge in the USA.

Fllyers fan here.

I live on the Jersey Shore. We don't get Flyers games here, we get Devils, Rangers, and Islanders. I call up Gamecenter, I say "Hey!" They say "Your area has been contractually sold to Comcast, and only they have the rights to broadcast Flyers games."

I reply.

"Comcast doesn't want to connect to my neighborhood. I have no way to switch to Comcast. Is there any legal way for me to watch the Flyers?"

Their response : "The only legal way to watch a Flyers game in your area is through Comcast."

So... Yeah. This sucks. Can't even pay to watch hockey. farking idiots.

Well there's no question who has the thug reputation and who deserves it.

Just sayin.

And to Scott Hartnell, if you'd cut that f*cking mop you wouldn't look like a whiny b*tch all the time, complaining to the refs after every scrum that someone pulled your precious hair.

Hartnell is one of the classiest acts in the game. Just because he isn't like cryby and isn't afraid to throw a punch here and there doesn't make him a biatch.

Pens have a reputation as whiny biatches. It is truly well earned. Flyers are certainly no angels but they are not the same players as from the 70's.

As I understand it, Hockey is a game played on on the occasions when the 'players' stop crying about money long enough to begin smacking each other on the head?

Hartnell and Giroux are what hockey players should be. Skilled yet tough enough to defend themselves.
