Mumbles is just following in the footsteps of the Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan, when he congratulated the 1984 Boston Celtics carrying on the legacy of their predecessors John Havleezak, Dave Covens, and Tommy Hineshone.

Last years congrats went out to Grabowski and Menendez after a tough postseason. It's fitting that the mayor of Boston continue the city's history of athletic name fails.

My father always spoke of Mumbles discussing the problem of "bums conjugating in the park." We tried to imagine a bunch of homeless men drinking Thunderbird and repeating "I am, you are, he is, she is..."

"Alcatraz around my neck" was another classic.

Well, in that guy's defense, there are only roughly three people in Boston who have any sort of command of the English language, so he kinda fits right in in that town.

This is what politicians do in Boston. It's a great tradition with many practitioners including Ted Kennedy, who once spoke about the great home run achievements of Mike McGuire and Sammy Sooser.

You reminded me of the Funny or Die sketch with Tom Brady at the sports store. "Shame on you Matt Damon! His wife died in those Bourne movies but I don't feel sorry for him one bit."

Wow that's a stretch. I don't recall Reagan being the mayor of Boston.

Besides, Mayor Mumbles is famous for his gaffes. There's even a website devoted to it. http://mumblesmenino.us/index.htm

They manage to get under Brady's skin for some reason. Some of his lowest career passer ratings have been against the Ravens, but I think he's still 5-2 against them. I don't follow the Ravens, but I believe their secondary is a little weak right now. And Ray Rice is great but the Pats sure as hell shutdown a good offense plus Adrian Foster last week. We'll see....

The Ravens looked downright geriatric in that game against Denver. Denver's incompetence lost that game more than any Raven effort won it for them. Ravens played 87 defensive plays in wildcard week, then the brutal game in Denver. Their LBs are old and slow and will be responsible for that sweet spot 8 yards out.

Gonna be a blowout.

Pats - 49ers

Yah, the Pats are gonna run about 90 offensive plays as well.

I like how he's wearing a #75 Wilfork jersey and still can't get his name right.  Look on the back of the jersey!

These are our elected officials who think we aren't smart enough to make our own decisions for ourselves and need to make our decisions for us, folks.

That would be the same LB core (now with Suggs back) that beat the Pats in week 3 this year...

You can see what you want to see. I, for one, saw a Hall of Fame DB getting smoked time and again by one of the game's best young wideouts, a D that rallied to stop a HoF quarterback when it mattered most and held his stellar offense to 21 points, a team that put up 479 yards of offense on the #1 D in the league, and a team rallying behind its retiring star to win the 4th longest game ever in one of the league's most hostile environments.

Their LBs are old and slow and will be responsible for that sweet spot 8 yards out.

Old? You have Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, two guys in their primes, a rookie, and the 6th guy is a special teamer.

Suggs: 30, reigning Def. Player of the Year, limited with the Achilles injury.
Kruger: 26, and I think he has 4.5 sacks in two playoff games.
Lewis: yeah he's 37, but he's still better than most. And he's leading the playoffs in tackles with 30 in two games. THIRTY.
Ellerbe: 27

Backups:

Courtney Upshaw: 23, Rookie.
Brendon Ayanbejo: a special teamer really, probably won't take a snap, and is 32, but he's a 3-time Pro Bowler.

I think it's true that if you remove Ed Reed and Ray Lewis from the roster the Ravens have the youngest D in the NFL.
