Someone at Cablevision will get their ass beat if they don't pick up the network with "Always Sunny." Especially after they just raised rates again.

Fox Soccer is going away? That kind of sucks, that channel is responsible for the growth of the EPL fan bases and viewership in the US. I can't believe NBC outbid ESPN+Fox... by a lot.

As long as Ian Darke and Steve McManaman get brought onto the broadcast team I'm ok with this.

IMO, FX is one of the best cable channels, both through original programming and movies, hope this split helps them and they don't end up shooting themselves in the foot.

I honestly doubt Fox Soccer is going away given that they own the US broadcasting rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Either they'll keep it or merge it with the new Fox Sports 1 channel.

NBC needed something other than hockey to fill it's NBC Sports Net on the weekends.

It's Always Sunny has already been renewed for a 9th season, and FX has an option for a 10th.  But a lot of this season (which was certainly stronger, overall, than the last couple of seasons) did have that feeling of winding things down.

I figure "Always Sunny" has one more season left - this last one just wasn't that good and I mostly watched because of Charlie Day. They could air a half hour of him doing nothing more than eating a salad every week and I'd watch that. But there's not much left for the show to even do at this point.  Then again, they could surprise me. The season prior, with Mac's name, made me literally fall off my couch laughing, so... who knows?

They have other shows in the pipe though. I know the Always Sunny guys have show that was optioned by Fox a few years ago called "Boldly Going Nowhere" and Sutter had a lot of ideas for life after Sons. As long as they keep the standards where they currently are, we might actually see more breathing room for shows like Terriers to get a better crack at things.

I was surprised as well that there was no Archer season opener thread last night.

I will cancel my Cablevision package immediately if they bone me and I lose Sunny, Archer, etc. Dealing with Cablevision's contract spats over the past few years while enduring constant rate hikes has already pushed me to the edge. I would pirate television shows like all my friends but I have a job, am not a cheapskate, and would rather stay current with the only good shows on television.

American Horror Story has been doing well, and The Americans is coming on soon as far as the drama side goes. For comedy, Louie has been a huge critical success, though I'm not sure about ratings, plus there is Archer, as mentioned upthread.

They don't rerun anything other than Two and Half Men and the same handful of movies over and over and over again. If you miss Justified, you either wait two weeks and hope it ends up on On Demand, or you torrent. They put out great dramas, but they only rerun them the night they air them.

Not to mention that FX has done really well with getting non-premium cable rights to popular theatrical movies, and those movie ratings really help pay the bills, so they could always split the action/sci-fi/drama and comedies between the two channels.

Same here. I watched it because of all the hoopla here over it. I LOL'd at the dried clam joke, but that was about it. I get more LOLs from Metalocalypse, so maybe my tastes aren't refined enough for Archer.

Idontthinkyou'vethoughtyourcunningplanthrough .jpg

They already have an FX Movies channel - something that pissed me off, because they essentially took what was the Fox Movie Channel (which aired their greatest movies uncensored and uninterrupted, including Die Hard) and repurposed it to show a bunch of the movies FX would have normally shown (with commercials, censored and the lot). And even then, the main FX still shows a lot of movies throughout the day.

So they're creating this channel for the comedies...why, exactly? They've got plenty of seasons of Archer and Always Sunny...and then, what? Do what the main channel's doing and rerun the piss out of Married With Children and Spin City until the tape loses all tension?

Am I the only one who finds always sunny anti funny? I don't think I've ever laughed at that show.

Archer, on the other hand, is hilarious enough that I might buy it on DVD.

Seems odd to just keep splitting the viewership pie into smaller and smaller segments.
It's not as if the total numbers are rising and this could mean things like do I watch Archer or Justified because they are both on at 9 or whatever.

I've found Sunny to often start off as funny, but the characters are such morons, that the episode ends up cringe worthy instead of funny by the midpoint. They seem to beat a lot jokes into the ground or just act so retarded you can't focus on how funny they are.

Nice of them to pair it up with 'Louie' for me.

Try the following on for size:

S04E02: The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis
S05E02: The Gang Hits the Road
S03E02: The Gang Gets Invincible
S07E07: CharDee MacDennis: The Game of Games
S05E06: The World Series Defense
S07E11: Thunder Gun Express (only at the bottom because it requires some foreknowledge of the show, don't do this one first)

If you don't like any of these episodes (I've ranked them in order of my personal faves) the show isn't for you. Any one of these will make me damn near piss myself.

If you like those and want more, honorable mentions for:

S07E02: The Gang Goes to Jersey Shore
S06E04: Charlie's Big Break
S05E08: Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens

The show's early seasons are weak, and there are some turds in every season. S07E03 Frank's Little Beauties is painful (and disturbing) to watch.

2013-01-18 07:52:27 PM
Two best sunny episodes,

'The gang solves the North Korean conflict' and
'sweet dee is dating a retarded person'.

Season 3 is the best season overall.
