Dinjiin: Spiralmonkey: Terra Nova

I know a lot of people who said that Terra Nova was so bad that it was good. Meh. About the only thing it was good for was as a drinking game. If you took a swig every time there was a retarded hole in the writing, you were guaranteed to be on the floor by the 3rd commercial break.

It had dinosaurs and explosions. Dinosaurs and explosions! What else do you want at the end of a long working day but some takeaway and a few dinosaurs?

No shiat.  A Goddamned cow made me watch the rest of the scene in blurvision.  This friggin' show, I tell you, lol...

I DVRed the first episode. After that, I just let them pile up before I deleted them for space. I had no desire to wade into that swamp of shiat.

It had a cool premise for a mini series, but I saw the direction it would go by the end of the first episode. First class ticket to shiattown

I watch it for the trainwreck factor and that I have a hard time turning away from a show I start no matter how bad it is.
It still befuddles me that NBC renewed it.

I hated the first few episodes where Walter blames Peter for leaving.  WTF kind of father doesn't look for his kid?   And why was Olivia not looking instead of fighting.  Any parent would put the priority on finding the daughte then fighting the bad guys but the show makes Peter look like a coward for looking for his kid instead of resisting.   WTF?

Pulling an alien planet into Earth's orbit.

As one of the aliens said in what turned out to be the series finale -

This isn't over yet. As far as I know Sophia is still bringing our people here. You should know that our people were here before. We were here first. This place was our home before it was yours. But my people believed that if we stayed here something would happen. We call it the event.  It's a rebirth - a new step. We'll change, we'll evolve, but your people won't survive it.

The planet being pulled into Earth's orbit wasn't itself "the event," it was the next step in evolution for the alien race that somehow mankind wouldn't survive.

The Bestest: NeoCortex42: Something I don't get: The Observers have already shown an ability to go between universes (like observing Walternate working on a cure for Peter). Why not occupy the other side as well?

B-side may have been deemed unimportant to whatever their grand design is.

A better answer to that question would have been that The Observers actually originated in the alternate universe, which would have neatly explained how they could rewrite the history of the 21st century without endangering their own origin in the 22nd.

But then re-writing the future wouldn't have eliminated the invasion, unless that bridge also crossed dimensions.

I was upset that the dinosaurs had failed to consume the leading family in that series. As others noted, you know they picked a bad cast when you cheer for their demise.

Yeah, they would definitely have had to re-write the ending to make it work, but it would have neatly removed the paradoxes from the Observer invasion storyline and also explained why they left Over There alone. It also would have given the alternates an even bigger role in the resolution of the story, which I think would have been a good thing.

Mad_Radhu: and also explained why they left Over There alone

IIRC, The Observers left the Red Universe alone because they became much more rigidly militaristic following their 9/11 with their show me cards, complete lack of personal privacy, etc., so their world was much more "safe" and stable.  We didn't, and we were heading toward a path where we blew up the world, so they took us over to save us from ourselves.

9/11 failed in the Red Universe.  The militaristic security measures were all due to inter-universal breaches caused by Walter.  The reason the Observers picked the Blue Universe was that it was not only still intact, but less prepared for attack.

9/11 didn't fail. The target was simply different. Instead of the towers, the White House was destroyed.

Pentagon and White House. That's about 2,000 less dead civilians.  I think.  I guess we'll never know since 9/11 was never even a minor plot point on Fringe.  The militarization of the Fringe department in the Amber Universe was never attributed to 9/11 because it had nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with their universe falling apart (which started happening in the 80s--hence the dramatic technological advancement in surveillance and security)--as the show has made abundantly clear.  I was just trying to clean all the 9/11 out of robsul82's head.
