Crudbucket: strangeluck: [25.media.tumblr.com image 400x593]I think I could live with this becoming mainstream.Yes. Because that's exactly what it will be like in the real world.
StrangeQ: What if the Victorians had access to digital technology?Steampunk is stupid because the very premise of it makes absolutely no sense. You're not going to make a farking microcircuit out of brass, polished wood and patent leather. The very technologies that make the modern world possible are exactly the same ones the ones in steampunk obsolete and rediculous.First world hipster problems:Oh woe is me, where will I ever find wood with the proper brain and texture for my retro-chic laptop?[needsmoresteam.com image 850x842]Real world problems:I wonder if I can eat wood? Could it be food?[www.rescue.org image 562x374]

OtherLittleGuy: Thread needs for Agatha:[www.scifiwright.com image 688x641]/hot
Burr: [upload.wikimedia.org image 248x300]What happens when you cross Steampunk with Tolkien.Granted, it was a buggy game(taken care of by patches later), but it was still fun.
Makh: I thought we moved on to dieselpunk.http://dieselpunksencyclopedia.wordpress.com/origin-of-dieselpunk/
Weaver95: cons - mainstream consumer culture looting ideas from geek subculture, corrupting them into common, debased mass produced junk
keypusher: Not sure if you are serious, but a wood-paneled laptop isn't steam-powered either. The "steam" in steampunk is a metaphor.
westpointer: I like the steampunk motif.....just wish it had a better name.
JonnyBGoode: DarkSoulNoHope: geekbikerskum: Ikam: Steampunks are just goths that discovered the color brown.Came here to say this.Came here to hear this and deny it. Based on what I have witnessed, it's a bunch of geeks that read H.G. Wells instead of Edgar Allen Poe./brown looks like crap//purple is awesome! Also denying it. I am not now nor have I ever been "Goth". Though there are quite a few Goth Steampunks. Actually, a friend of mine does a seminar panel on the subject of steampunk being a "super-culture", accepting and drawing ideas from other subcultures such as Goth, Cyberpunk, etc.I don't have a lot of brown in my steampunk attire. Unless you count my gold brocade waistcoat. Mostly black, red and grey, with some yellow accents. Steampunk is what you make of it./A purple jacket or waistcoat would be a nice addition...
Ikam: Steampunks are just goths that discovered the color brown.
mytdawg: I like the steampunk toys and some of the art. Fashion? eh, okay... Much like goth I can see someone having to be pretty damn weird to pull it off.
not5am: he was playing it wrong. that game allowed almost any combination as long as you put in the time. it also kept track of reputations, which is probably why he couldn't ride trains anymore.
JDJoeE: Ah the game where one of the plots was of human women being kidnapped and raped by ogres to make hybrid babies
SlothB77: [ww4.hdnux.com image 334x471]i don't really see myself wearing this in public.
tom baker's scarf: i liked the steam punk ascetic a lot more a few years ago and even then more for the redesign of objects more than clothing. now it seems to be a competition to see who can glue the most random crap on to their clothes or person. some of those people looked more like first generation borgs than anything else.
WhippingBoy: Steampunk, and steampunk fashion, is a condiment, not a main course. It's fine in small doses if it's used to augment (rather than define) your appearance, but going overboard is just ridiculous. You wouldn't eat a bowl of ketchup, would you? Then put down the goggles...
Theory Of Null: I'm still waiting for Lazypunk to take hold. It's where you just wear whatever is comfortable and doesn't smell too bad.
Farce-Side: This thread started out very promising, then promptly devolved into pure, utter, unadulterated, uninteresting shiat. Kind of like steampunk.
pc: This is as ridiculous as furries and juggalos
gshepnyc: I know people are weary of steampunk but I don't find it anymore tiresome than that heavily armored supersoldier aesthetic that comes out of gaming and animation, the one with gigantic feet and legs and head hidden between armored shoulders and always carrying a cannon for a gun or a sword with a blade the size of a surfboard. Sick to death of that.
SavageWombat: So if Steampunk is so "over", what's the new up-and-coming fad? Surely the real cutting-edge trendies are all doing something Hollywood hasn't noticed yet.
RangerTaylor: How does cyberpunk (Diamond Age, Snow Crash, etc) equate to steampunk? I mean, they both share letters. . .
Tat'dGreaser: hervatski: Please God noYea thisSteampunk is just goths who discovered the color brown
bmwericus: Sure, keep telling yourself that cospay is gonna go mainstream...from your parents basement...to yours!Sure it is.
hervatski: Please God no
Scoot951: Honestly, seeing a little less plastic and a little more classy wood and metalwork wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
