cretinbob: they all look the same, with the exception of the Cherokee

Add some side view mirrors and door handles, and they look production ready. Where are the flights of fancy? Where is the wild exuberance?

1 Kinda cool
2 meh
3 meh
4 I can dig it, I like the nice fat rear fenders.
5 Remember the video of the Cherokee drifting in the parking lot? This might encourage that.
6 Hyundai =/= Aston Martin
7 New orange meh
8 Look, a Tourag with an Audi logo
9 Cool, but don't they already make that one?
10 Mercedes are starting to look like deflated balloons

Here in Detroit we usually just call it "the Detroit Auto Show" but naturally FARKers will block that little detail out of their minds, lest the idea of something awesome in Detroit cause their brains to implode.

Dammit, I wanted to see something that has no chance of being made, so I can biatch about it next year.

Since when did next years model become "concept?"

Do any of them look like something James Bond would drive? No? Then I'm not interested.

/Because you're not driving in style unless you have an ejector seat and guns in your headlights

Since car companies decided that was cheaper. The corolla isnt next years model.

After looking at that list, I think maybe I would have preferred something that looked like a goose mated with Gene Simmons.

2014 Corvette Stingray - trying way too hard
2014 Kia Cadenza - much too exciting for me
Lincoln MKC Concept - and how is this original?
2014 Infiniti Q50 - nice lines, but not that interesting.
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT - wow, a jeep suv, how exciting
Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept - Looks like an old Bugatti meets the future. ugly-sexy cool.
Toyota Furia Concept - A working Toyota design, meh.
Audi SQ5 - farking boring.
BMW 4-Series Concept Coupe - when did BMW loose their soul?
2014 Mercedes E Class - This has interesting lines, it might age really, really well.
Continental GTC Speed - Yet another ugly design for the footballer with too much money.

Man, the auto show is basically the only reason I ever go to Detroit. I'm heading out there either this weekend or the next. Most of the cars are flipping boring, but there are some beauties that always turn out.

Concept [car] (of a product, esp. a car) created as an exercise to demonstrate the technical skills and imagination of the designers, and not intended for mass production or sale.

I don't think Kia has ever had original styling. Hyundai used to be a terrible offender, but they hired some legit designers and at least some of their vehicles are original now. Kia, on the other hand, just seems to be ripping off of someone with just about every car they make.

2013-01-18 08:41:49 AM
that was the absolute worst list of "concepts" ever! most of them look like cars that are already in production!

the vette looks cool, but most vettes do. bentleys i'm sure are a nice ride, but they're definitely for people who have too much f'ing money.

i drove an "r-spec" 5.0 liter hyundai genesis sedan a few days ago and if i had $45000 to spend on a car i may have to consider that one

i tried to talk my mom into a genesis, but she bought another altima. i do like her altima, and it's quite a bit less expensive than the genesis, but i think she would've liked the genesis. her parents (in their mid-80s) just layed down cash for a new ford taurus, and the crazy thing is the 10 year extended warranty that i certainly hope is transferrable to whomever may get the car when my grandparents can no longer drive it.

Is it just me, or did their pricing seem to skew a little high? The E-class is gonna jump by $15k? What I presume to be BMW's answer to the A5 starts at $50k versus $37k, which is even higher than its own 5 series. Even the Kia Cadenza (really?! that's the best you could come up with, Seoul?) starts higher than its Hyundai-badged siblings.

I really see little difference between the modern Camaro, Mustang or Challengers.

All of them are slabs with rounded edges that vary only slightly by the shape of the front end, and the
Mustang has a bit more of a humped back whale shape to the roof.

Other than that, they are indistinguishable in looks.

The Challenger might not be able to hang with the other two in some ways, but IMO it's by far the best looking of the bunch and even the R/T has 375 hp. Of course, the 2015 Mustang might change the whole best looking thing.

alabasterblack: Kit Fister: Xenomech: Goodfella: - C7: $70k car that pushes 450 hp stock. Outfarkingstanding. The C5-C7 Vettes are one of the only American cars I would ever own. For its price, it is truly the best car...

That's outstanding? The 1SS Camaro gets 423 hp stock for less than half that price. The ZL1 Camaro gets 580 hp from the factory for under $57K

Or maybe you're being sarcastic and I'm not familiar enough with Top Gear?

This. I'd own a Camaro over a Vette any day.

Or pick up a Dodger Charger/Challenger SRT8 under $50K 470HP stock

Have 2006 Charger and 2004 PT Cruiser GT. Chrysler will have to do a lot of work to ever convince me to buy one of their cars again. It's like they said "Suspension? Meh, just hand me some parts from that old Mechano set in the corner and let's call it a day".

Rapmaster2000: JackieRabbit: StrangeQ: Camaros are ugly abominations.

If you appreciate the Camero, Mustang, or Challenger, you might just be a redneck.

I dunno. It seems like Challengers are overwhelming driven by black guys.

//drives a bmw
///realizes that bimmers are overwhelming driven by middle-management suckups

around here it seems challengers are dominated by middle-aged white guys who aren't rich. chargers, on the other hand, do seem to be driven more by black guys.

i never quite understood the term "bee-mer", and especially not the spelling "bimmer", especially since "bmw" both rolls off the tongue somewhat smoothly and takes less time to write/type. i like to say "bee em vee" since i was stationed in germany and always heard the germans calling them that.

3 series and 6 series bmws are the stuck-up yuppies (middle-mgt), as a general rule. same with c-class, ml-class, etc mercedes benz. the upper-levels of bmw and mb tend to be much friendlier folks with a lot of money. none of this, of course, is a set-in-stone rule, but tends to be the majority.

the_colonel: Since when did next years model become "concept?"

The "concept" is that most people are idiots and won't know the difference.

It's not that tough if you consider the value proposition.

$45K for a mid-to-large sedan with 429hp V8, 8-speed tranny, heated/cooled leather, nav, 7.1 surround, backup camera, front/rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise, lane departure warning, adaptive xenon headlights, good resale value, good reliability, and a pretty kick ass warranty? I don't think that's such a stretch, considering a similarly spec'd 300C is north of $48K.

And then there's this:

dumbimages.net

The A6 is the only car in that list whose lowest average paid price falls inside the average range of a the Genesis. The rest have a lowest average paid outside the price range of the Genesis. That A6 is the base A6, with a 2.0T 4-cylinder and virtually none of the features listed above. Oh, and the base 2013 A6 MSRP starts at $42K (still missing the options).

If only the automobile manufacturers would go back to producing a car that was affordable,
that pretty much anyone could afford, instead of 60,000+ SUV's or crossover vehicles that
the stupid "keep up with the Jones's" buy all the time.

Remember when "The Car of the Future" actually looked like the future?

*sigh*
