SweetBecca: Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: A few weeks late on this pic, but it's probably my favorite of Piggy. I also love the JJ Abrams lens flare going on with it as well.

Its never to late to post pictures. Piggy looks so comfy and like he belongs there.
My cat Wentworth I love the half smile on his face. :)

[i76.photobucket.com image 240x480]

Pierogi always has a smile on his face. He's our big, goofy, not very smart cat. If he was only a cuddler, he'd be perfect, but he's content to be on his own. Besides always smiling, the fact that he seems to forget how to purr on a daily basis, and always has to huff for a minute or two before purring, just about makes him the perfect cat. Now if he didn't weigh 15 pounds and keep breaking the catioes we set up because of his weight, then I wouldn't have to waste a lot of my days off fixing the things.

Yesterday, I had the supreme honor of being able to offer comfort to a grieving Middle Schooler. Thank goodness her friends had her back, and thought to bring her sorrows to me..designated adult..and strangley enough, subbing for someone else. Soo glad I could be there, to offer a shoulder to weep on. She was so shocked that her Uncle could die at 54.. Sudden heart attck...while playing racket ball. Literally dropped dead. Jeebus! Poor kid, hope I helped. Dunno if I did. Dusty..

getting better.......

Lily is a lovely and beautiful kitty.  Glad you guys have each other...the love you share shows in the pics.

I know I've blathered on about the trust our furkids give us.
Got another example today.  D'Artagnan has something in his right ear; might be what's causing his head-shaking behavior.  Vet visit confirmed and it's coming OUT tomorrow (Tuesday AM)...but D'Artagnan is an independent boy, on his own schedule...so I  took advantage of his coming home for snack-and-nap and brought him to the vet today, where he will stay overnight till his surgery.
I can't depend on his wanting to stay home so he can have H2O only after midnight and available to make his appointment.  He has ways of getting what he wants, and I prefer not to knock heads with him unless absolutely necessary.

Being the independent and determined boy he is, he proceeded to bite a hole in his nice, roomy, expensive carrier while we were on the way to the vet.  I let him out before the hole got to escape-size (figuring it was just a matter of time) and he could ride free in the car.
He wasn't happy about riding in the car, even though he's done it many times before..."Meow?" in a high-pitched voice I rarely hear.
He felt more secure sitting closerto (read: 'in contact with') me...and it is rather difficult to drive a car with a nervous, 13 lb cat trying to sit in your lap.  We got ourselves situated however...I had room to drive and he was in contact with me and could look out both the side and front windows.

He was still unhappy however...he was making the 'scared-kitty' smell.  You know what I'm talking about...sharp, almost like urine, but not caused by pee.  I held him, cuddled him, and sang to him...and called the tech on duty when we arrived outside the office.  He didn't object to be being held and cuddled...he even purred...and then entered the smaller (hard plastic, metal bars) carrier she brought out to transport him without much fuss.

He 'knew' (because I had told him at length) that he was in good, loving hands, and though he would be in unfamiliar surroundings with people he didn't know, he would be safe and well cared-for.
He trusted me to allow this unknown person to take charge of him.

I will pick him up tomorrow, and he will be very glad to see me...probably won't plot revenge either...and hopefully whatever is causing him to shake his head while being petted will be GONE.
Still makes me teary (well, that and my sore jaw)...the unquestioning trust they give me, that what I choose for them will be well done.

Is this like what you feel when you're a parent?  Because it's really, really scary.
I want to be worthy of this trust.

Lsherm: Buster sounds like a terrible cat! ;) THEY ARE DESIGNED BY NATURE TO CATCH THE DEMON MICE!

He was a wonderfully awful cat and a total love-slut, too. He had these big, big green eyes that always made him look surprised and a fluffy tail like a squirrel's. Buster caught mice pretty well, but Bandit was better. Neither of them had anything on Scooter (went to the Bridge damn near 20 years ago!), though, who brought in birds and one time left us a rabbit, sans noggin. Where he found a rabbit in the middle of Stockton I'll never know, but we guess that it was from the "wild" area near the railroad tracks/steel plant near the house. Also, Buster bringing in live mice and releasing them taught me to catch them bare-handed. Not quite a party trick, but it has produced some funny looks when I dive toward a mouse instead of recoiling in disgust/horror. At least I don't chase laser pointer dots! ...Yet...

It snowed on Thursday night near Richmond, and the temperature dropped precipitously on Friday, so the closet in my office "caught" two mice in traps.  We have an old farmhouse that was retrofitted with central air.  I leave the the traps there because the office is on the second floor and the main air conditioning vent comes down from the attic, so when the mice come in, they come down that vent.  They always take a bypass into that closet, so that's where I leave the poison and the traps in addition to the poison in the attic.  If they don't get caught in the attic, it's a pretty good second defensive line.

Anyhoo, one mouse got trapped but it took the better part of five minutes for it to expire.  I was working on the computer and I heard the snap, then nothing but rattling around for five minutes.  Here's how my cats reacted:

Blue, the indoor since birth cat who catches mice, carries them in his mouth to our bed, and then drops them - still living - on my chest, reacted like this:

img248.imageshack.us

That's the closet door.  We don't use it, so I have the poison in it.  Blue can't get in it, but he can hear the mouse thrashing.  I dread him catching mice, because the one time he brought a live mouse to bed has resulted in a story my wife tells people we don't know at least seventeen times a year because I did not react in a manly manner.  In fact, I may have screamed like a four year-old girl and moved out of the bedroom for two days until we trapped the mouse.  And by "scream" I mean a panicked "UUUUGHGGG!  UHAHA!  UUUGHGHGH!  HAUUUUUUUGH!"

Bob, our formerly fearsome outdoor cat, who used to kill birds, mice, snakes, and anything else she could catch while she was outside doesn't do any of that anymore.  She has taken a much different tack while living inside, and she reacted like this:

img820.imageshack.us

As long as there is food in the morning, Bob has declared herself retired from killing anything, and will instead sleep on top of the subwoofer under my desk if she isn't sleeping in our bed.  We think she's about 14 years old, and she sleeps all the farking time.  She makes up for her lack of killing things by being the greatest snuggler ever:

This is my best friend Bear, he crossed the bridge in 2003 two months after this picture was taken at the age of about 18. Smartest dog I've ever had, he was rescued on a fishing trip to the Klamath River where some jerk abandoned him. We saw him chasing a bear one morning before he swam across the river to join us for breakfast, hence his name. Haven't been able to talk myself into getting another pet since.

Happy to report that Olivia is improving nicely!  No moar yelps when she moves.  Last night, I heard her get our of her doggy bed, shake, and jump onto Little Pie's bed.  Wha?  Then at some point, got down and into her own bed again.  She's going potty fine, no yelps (knock on wood), still taking her meds (Mr. Pie is doing this), my mom's dog next door wants her to run with him, but she won't; she knows her limits.

So, overall I think she's on the mend.  Yay!  Thanks for all your suggestions, stories and kind words.  They mean a lot.  You guys rawk!  :oD

This is how he will be looking at me when I go to meet him.

Sorry, I had a heart attack recently, and I'm not sure about how things are going to go.

I'm not supposed to be drinking, either, but I am.

Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing this.

I should delete this, but I won't.

I've got to spout about it to somebody, don't I?

Had four stents put in.. and an enlarged heart.. get twinges sometimes.. I think it's more my imagination.. I get regular checkups, everything is good to go.. went through that for a while.. realized that I was stressing myself out, and decided not to do that anymore.. I avoid negatives, enjoy each day, and find contentment wherever I can.. I am in the process of 'getting my ducks in a row'... I was tied to my work for a long time, and really let things go... cleaning up, one detail at a time.. once I quit worrying about the future, the stress was gone.. and I could rebuild.. and it works. You can be in charge of your destiny, and it will take some work.. but it,s worth it. Please keep a positive attitude.. be totally informed as to what your options are.. I have physical limitations now, know what they are, and live with them.. enjoy each day..live smarter.. don't ever give upi.imgur.com

Rainbow Bridge

So many animals,
All shapes and sizes.
Travelling over.

Their bright lives streak the sky
 With wonder.

Every colour,
Banded together,
Each a sparkling life.

A rainbow has neither a beginning,
Nor an end.
It spans the sky,
Causing us to stand.
Be still.
Experience the splendor.

I have called out, "Oh look, a rainbow!"
Many walk on, a few search the sky,
Smile and carry on.
A rainbow lift to the soul.

I see blue, green, yellow eyes,
Copper so rare.
I feel them looking down
Know their joy.

Rainbows of blessings,
Shower my soul.

Sickapie: Happy Caturday everyone.  I haz a worried...

My goggie, Olivia, is in some kind of pain.  It started today, early afternoon.  She is having a hard time finding a comfortable sitting position, can't get up from a sitting position or laying down position without yelping.  Mr. Pie took her to her vet, they took xrays, he poked, prodded, etc. Found nothing that would indicate she ate a toy, wood chips or anything like that.   They gave her two different pain meds and to call him Monday.

It's breaking my heart hearing her cry.  The only thing we can think of is that she might of pulled a muscle running around the backyard.  :o(

/off to catch up on the thread.

Hoover has hurt himself a few times....he strained a toe when we were 'running' in a field (trip to vet).  He strained an ACL when he jumped off the couch (emergency vet and regular vet....he screamed in pain).  And the worst was he hurt his back and was on lockdown for almost 2 months (multiple trips to the vet, he cried in pain....i got crap from coworker because I left to take my dog to the vet, my dog who was screaming).

Do the pain drugs, keep her quiet,  And hope she feels better soon.

You're right...you do not get a 'pass' if you have cats instead of human kids.  They'll end you up in the animal ER for asthma attacks, cuts, sprains, dislocations, broken bits and illness just the same.

At least they don't expect to be allowed to drive the car or use the credit card on line (well, except for Dragon!)...and for cats, just about the only 'drug' one needs to be concerned with is catnip.

Well, and lavender.  Some cats like that, too.  They don't get all silly...just cheek rubs,  PUUURRRRRRSSSasssssssss and blissful kitty faces.

That is what I was thinking...this song was written by a former slave ship captain, who, during a storm, called out to be saved. And his life was never the same after.

That's not the half of it.
John Newton (the songs writer) was probably one of the worst examples of humanity to ever live.
He was hated by his crew almost as much as he was hated by his cargo of slaves.
The law of the sea requires that one *must* attempt to save anyone washed overboard.
When swept overboard during a storm at sea, his crew stuck to the letter of the law, while violating
the spirit of the law.

Rather that a more normal method of rescue.
They *harpooned* him!

Needless to say, his life changed a great deal after that incident.

I started the day off cleaning poopy up when the laxatone worked with kitty kitty as he was trying to get impacted again. Done with that. Then I was supposed to go to school and take a chapter test that had to be done by.... you guessed it ! TODAY! Well, the school closed because of snow.... dammit! And then to add to it all I just cut the tip of Carls' ear off changing his bandages! He put his ear right in to the scissors!! OMG I'm about to cry!!! I had his face in my hand!!

Oh sweetheart! That is just awful! I am sure he will forgive you. After all my Mom's dog forgave her even though she accidentally cut off a nipple...I'm guessing it's not one of those we can reattach it deals...try to remember they do this to ferals, to mark them as spayed...do you have pain meds for him? For you, I'd suggest a nice glass of vino...emergency rations as it were..

Ferals always have chewed up ears anyway...It would be much more reliable to have the spayed ones wear funny glasses.

syzygy whizz: yobbery: quantum_jellyroll: Just a thought...
Did you ever consider giving him hushpuppies to help blow out that hairball?

You sir, are a genius! I've seen what those things can do!

It could still come in handy. He hasn't pooped yet. I'm pretty sure the pain meds have something to do with that.
Going to check in with the vet tomorrow if we don't get any 'presents' by morning.

You're right about pain meds slowing down the digestive tract. Can't speak for cats, not being a vet...but as a human that's something you want to get on RIGHT AWAY. The longer the...er...'stuff marked for disposal' sits up there, the harder and drier it gets...and harder to get rid of.
Think of it as giving birth to spiked bricks...

No worries....He presented us with an uber poop today. He's sleeping it off now.

micromedic: tigerose,
I don't have wine, but I have vodka... vodka it is!! I hadn't thought of that! Thank You! He doesn't seem to be in pain. Just mad... sigh...

Hey, any port in a storm! I'm sure that with some antibiotic creme it will be fine. Maybe some apology tuna is in order as well...of course, Eli suggests some nice nommy chicken...cooked of course! If you notice in Eli's pics, one of his ears is notched. No idea how that happened except it was an outdoor cat injury. It only really bothers me! I once had a cat who was bitten, we think by an oppossum..he had a perfect hole in his ear..he was a black kitteh with one eye(accident, nasty...nasty) so we kept threatening to put a gold hoop in it....so of course it healed right up!

Try not to be too hard on yourself. Shisa happens.

This is Iggy (aka Ignatius Q Cat) before he lost a lot of weight. His "slimming" was due to hyperthyroidism. He is at a good weight now, is on maintenance meds & has started to chase his tail again.

Greetings from Virginia, where we have SNOW !  1.5 inches so far.. local (and accurate) forecaster says 3-6" tonight... supposed to end early tomorrow morning... both cars covered already.. Feral Fred is in the utility room in his heated bed.. according to the footprints, he came out, looked around, and went back inside... the inside crew are occupying all the windows.. lots of vocalizations.. probably translate to many WTF,s.. I will bring them a bowl of the snow tomorrow am... should be interesting.. had a white cat named Snowball (RIP)...  liked to play cat-dozer in the stuff... would put his head down and run... looovved the snow, but loved the sun more....i.imgur.com

The fat cat story got me to get off my lazy butt and find a picture of the fat cats. This picture dates back to 1998 if not earlier, and both of these cats have long ago crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Meet Foof (up top) and Zak, the meatloaf cats. Sisters, they got up to about 17 pounds on small frames. My ex kept these two when she moved out, I got the other 3.

Foof was originally Foots because of her white socks, she was renamed Foof because she had foof for brains!
