I'm off to bed. See you all tomorrow.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately - just haven't had anything going on that's interesting enough to post. Wanted to send out *hugs* to anyone who needs them, *congrats* to anyone who will claim them, *get well soon* to any person (or furkid) who's feeling poorly (especially Biscuit) and a great big "Hi, there" to everyone.

Now it's time to lie in bed on freshly washed sheets and pillowcases and curl up under a freshly washed comforter - aah! See you guys tomorrow!

Here's something I don't see very often:

Lola (left) and Sadie usually hate each other. Imagine my surprise when I see them both passed out on the same couch.
Granted, they're not snuggled up together, but it's a very good start. Yay!

ThePuceGuardian: I'm back from another foray to the hinterlands. The dust washes off, but every time it takes longer to get it all out of my sinuses.
Perhaps I should try a Neti pot.

Anyway!

The new truck really, really likes to wallow around in gravel. Sometimes it's hard to persuade him to leave.

Thank you for those pics! My bf and I both think that the are awesome! Saved those bad boys to print out and hang up in the house :)

It snowed on Thursday night near Richmond, and the temperature dropped precipitously on Friday, so the closet in my office "caught" two mice in traps.  We have an old farmhouse that was retrofitted with central air.  I leave the the traps there because the office is on the second floor and the main air conditioning vent comes down from the attic, so when the mice come in, they come down that vent.  They always take a bypass into that closet, so that's where I leave the poison and the traps in addition to the poison in the attic.  If they don't get caught in the attic, it's a pretty good second defensive line.

Anyhoo, one mouse got trapped but it took the better part of five minutes for it to expire.  I was working on the computer and I heard the snap, then nothing but rattling around for five minutes.  Here's how my cats reacted:

Blue, the indoor since birth cat who catches mice, carries them in his mouth to our bed, and then drops them - still living - on my chest, reacted like this:

img248.imageshack.us

That's the closet door.  We don't use it, so I have the poison in it.  Blue can't get in it, but he can hear the mouse thrashing.  I dread him catching mice, because the one time he brought a live mouse to bed has resulted in a story my wife tells people we don't know at least seventeen times a year because I did not react in a manly manner.  In fact, I may have screamed like a four year-old girl and moved out of the bedroom for two days until we trapped the mouse.  And by "scream" I mean a panicked "UUUUGHGGG!  UHAHA!  UUUGHGHGH!  HAUUUUUUUGH!"

Bob, our formerly fearsome outdoor cat, who used to kill birds, mice, snakes, and anything else she could catch while she was outside doesn't do any of that anymore.  She has taken a much different tack while living inside, and she reacted like this:

img820.imageshack.us

As long as there is food in the morning, Bob has declared herself retired from killing anything, and will instead sleep on top of the subwoofer under my desk if she isn't sleeping in our bed.  We think she's about 14 years old, and she sleeps all the farking time.  She makes up for her lack of killing things by being the greatest snuggler ever:

DoomsdayAardvark, ValentinesDay sounds like quite reasonable time for Lindsay to make AlterationVisit2Vet, especially if she's staying at your place. Unlike the monkey business with Sake & Scampi who're gonna be parents at B4's, due to not getting grabbed & taken soon enough.

Nope, Lindsay and Diego (who also needs the anti-valentine treatment) are staying with my girlfriend's mom. Which makes life much easier on Kay, who wants me to point out (again) just how much he hates them.

Thanks!
You're OK on the mouse reaction too. I know a tough guy union welder from the East coast who screams like a little girl and jumps up on a table to get away from a little field mouse.
I picked it up and took it outside, the damn thing was tame as a pet.

Mice. Are. The. Enemy.

I can't explain it, and before we bought this house a decade ago, I had no idea I had a mouse phobia.  I don't mind snakes, spiders, possums, raccoons, roaches, wasps, rabbits (they're a nuisance), or even ladybugs, which have invaded the house by the millions.  I had pet guinea pigs growing up, along with hamsters and gerbils.

But mice do something to me and I can't farking explain it.

Don't feel bad, that's not a good way to be woken up at unpleasant hours. Buster (our grey and white kitty who went to the Bridge a good ten or twelve years ago) was fond of bringing in live catches to mom and dad at two or three in the morning. I still recall how he brought them a mouse, which he dropped in the bed, and ran across mom's neck. After a lot of noise and bed-things going in many directions, dad and Buster hunched on either side of the dresser, trying to coax out the mouse from underneath it. The big, heavy, six-feet-tall by four-feet-wide solid wood dresser/vanity. Dad was not amused.

Buster was SUCH a little stinker. One night he discovered how to open the drawers under their bed and got into dad's sock drawer. He gleefully played around in there for a while, scattering neatly-folded socks everywhere, until he grabbed a pair of black dress socks, jumped up on the bed, and resumed playing. Again, this was really late at night and dark, and in his bleary state dad thought that Buster had brought in another praying mantis, which was his most common prey, and he was, as mentioned, fond of bringing it to them still quite alive and in the small hours of the night. I wish I had pics of him, but the film they were on accidentally got exposed as I removed it from the camera. I still want to cry about that!

Not as bad as the time the Mother-in-Law's cat brought a live blue jay to the hubby while he was sleeping about fifteen years back. They're meeeeean little bastards.

Rats are my nemesis, they have destroyed my furnace ducts and I've been freezing my butt off and fixing them for several weeks, I hope to finish tomorrow, which won't happen if I don't get to bed. Good night good folks!

Lsherm: Buster sounds like a terrible cat! ;) THEY ARE DESIGNED BY NATURE TO CATCH THE DEMON MICE!

He was a wonderfully awful cat and a total love-slut, too. He had these big, big green eyes that always made him look surprised and a fluffy tail like a squirrel's. Buster caught mice pretty well, but Bandit was better. Neither of them had anything on Scooter (went to the Bridge damn near 20 years ago!), though, who brought in birds and one time left us a rabbit, sans noggin. Where he found a rabbit in the middle of Stockton I'll never know, but we guess that it was from the "wild" area near the railroad tracks/steel plant near the house. Also, Buster bringing in live mice and releasing them taught me to catch them bare-handed. Not quite a party trick, but it has produced some funny looks when I dive toward a mouse instead of recoiling in disgust/horror. At least I don't chase laser pointer dots! ...Yet...

We've had an interesting weekend at the Snuffybud household. Friday night Mrs Snuffybud was laying on the sofa with Sam cat (our 19 year old peaceful old guy) on her lap when Desi (1-1/2 and full of beans) came by and decided to annoy Sam. AJ pushed Desi away but when she brought her arm back up Sam sunk his teeth into her arm, thinking it was Desi he was biting. She cleaned it up but evidently Sam got her good. Saturday it was starting to swell, so off she went to the Immediate Care Clinic. She came back with antibiotics and a circle drawn around it so she could see if it had grown bigger. By Saturday night she's drawn a new line around it because it was spreading, Sunday morning it was even bigger. There was another call to the Dr's, they said give it one more day. It's finally not looking as bad this morning, but the deepest one on the tooth marks looks nasty. She's headed to her regular Dr's today. Fun fun fun.
