Just a suggestion - talk to your vet(s) about Miralax - mine put Dragon on it when he was getting older and having "issues" - but it has also drastically reduced the incidence of hairballs, and seems to make it easier for him to pass the hair that he ingests when cleaning himself. YMMV, but it never hurts to ask. *please note: i disavow any knowledge of the possible side effects*

Back in the late '90's, I was having a new door installed in my house, and Merlin was in the basement (please note that the basement door was directly opposite from the new door in question) and he was afraid to come up. I went down, picked him up (with his front paws around my neck) and started to bring him upstairs when he lost it and started the "back paw kick" - which resulted in him not only ripping my t-shirt, but cutting my left nipple completely in half from top to bottom. I was PISSED (and bleeding like a stuck pig) but I quickly realized that it was not his fault, and I never blamed him - no more than any animal would blame you for inflecting an accidental injury while you were trying to help them.

Thank goodness her friends had her back, and thought to bring her sorrows to me..designated adult..and strangley enough, subbing for someone else. Soo glad I could be there, to offer a shoulder to weep on. She was so shocked that her Uncle could die at 54.. Sudden heart attck...while playing racket ball. Literally dropped dead. Jeebus! Poor kid, hope I helped. Dunno if I did. Dusty..
(((huge massive hugs))) It's hard to believe things like that can happen when you're a Middle Schooler. I think you helped her a lot. It's good to have an adult to talk to about those things when you're at that age.

There's a small area on the base of the tail that has been forgotten: the elevator butt spot. That's an 'oh, hells yeah' for my cats. But the belly part is spot on. You could lose a hand if you get too close to a cat's belly.

We found the "elevator" spot on Barclay when he was about 15. Can't believe it took that long. if you kind of "skritched" it, he would start a licking/lapping motion with his tongue --- he'd have to find an arm or leg (human) to start grooming. It came in handy a time or two when his blood sugar took a dive and we had to give him some syrup -- just put it near his month and skritch the right spot and he'd lap it up.

It's been a year -- we love the new girls, but still miss him tons.

One of my favorites...

You're right...you do not get a 'pass' if you have cats instead of human kids.  They'll end you up in the animal ER for asthma attacks, cuts, sprains, dislocations, broken bits and illness just the same.

At least they don't expect to be allowed to drive the car or use the credit card on line (well, except for Dragon!)...and for cats, just about the only 'drug' one needs to be concerned with is catnip.

Well, and lavender.  Some cats like that, too.  They don't get all silly...just cheek rubs,  PUUURRRRRRSSSasssssssss and blissful kitty faces.
