Well, in that case, why make gangster movies? Or heist movies? Or Westerns? Or World War II action movies? Or spy movies? Or political movies? Or horror movies? Or movies about people in space? Or superhero movies?

There aren't many genres where nearly every story hasn't already been told.

Oh, and given that an average Adam Sandler flick costs 70 million now, 100 million on a large scale action movie starring 2 Oscar winners isn't that shocking.

If you don't enjoy a Tarantino movie, no one can tell you why they do. To me, his movies are all about the individual scenes and I love the way he creates one. If you don't, eh. Go find something you do enjoy.

Every Tarantino movie is a self-indulgent movie. He's a film geek. More specifically, he's a film geek who gushes over the films he grew up with in the 60s and 70s.

So his career spans those interests. That's all he does, is make movies with topical content that is either a homage or a riff of the movies he loved watching as a child, from blaxploitation to kung fu to crime/mafia to grindhouse. And there's nothing wrong with that -- it's what all film makers do. Even Lucas styled Star Wars after 30s Flash Gordon serials. Isn't that what film makers get into movies in the first place?

Tarantino has made a good movie of every 60s and 70s trope. He even has a Nazisploitation movie under his belt now.

Django is his spaghetti western. The only genres he hasn't riffed yet are the space opera (I mean something cheesy like Barbarella or Silent Running or Logan's Run, not Star Wars) and the big tits Russ Meyer flick. Then, and only then, can he safely retire.

So while he's ripping off something that's already done, it's not like he's cheapening or trivializing the genre with a substandard imitation. Tarantino has nothing but the utmost respect for the genres his films cover, and while some might be bordering on parody, they're still high budget, good quality, very stylistic additions that play to the genres' aesthetics.

She originally did. Her and Django were going to have a bunch of interactions that culminated in a fight where her bandana was ripped off to show that she had no lower jaw. I'm pretty sure it was shot, too.

I've got a weird thing for Zoe Bell, so that would have been... disconcerting.

Any Pie Left: Actually, for a Tarantino film, I felt he was keeping the dialogue somewhat sparse and contained. Enjoyed the whole thing, but did feel confusion about the Asian woman with the bandana, figured she was going to be set up for the sequel or something.

i wonder if she's going to end up being like boba fett, a minor character that ends up being as popular as the main character.

i like tarantino's dialogues, it seems unnecessarily long because he's using a conversation between characters to explain each character's personality/motivations in the movie. maybe because it was sparse in this movie that people are alittle confused as to why schultz did that in the end.

That I'd like to see, although I can't imagine him doing anything sci-fi. Then I couldn't imagine him doing a fantasy Nazi movie either but space opera is even more out of his normal zone. He'd be perfect for Barbarella-but-not-quite-Barbarella.

You're right. This documentary just stuck to the facts and even though the director of this documentary is known for pushing the envelope and trying to one-up himself it was faithfully adherent to the time period.
