It's off to the local thrift store after work.  It's gonna be a fun weekend.

And on another slightly related note, what happened to Goodwill and cheap prices?  They are really expensive now.  FU Goodwill!

I had thought about this in the past, but seeing this article really is starting to motivate me. The Goodwill down the street usually has a large shelf full of good candidates. Usually cheaper to buy the throwaway thrift art than buying new canvas. I like the work in the article, positively absurd.

/Most Thomas Kinkade pictures look like a dragon has started the cozy cottages ablaze already.

What happened is that the thrift store industry exploded when the economy tanked. Now there are thrift stores of all sorts on almost every corner. More competition means lower sales, so they have to raise the prices to make up for it.

Great minds.

Monsterized glurge paintings would make great gifts. I wonder if I can find some Kincaide in the thrift store.

As for prices, I suspect it's the cost of rent and the fact that non-used garments are made by Chinese people getting 50 cents an hour.

I am SO gonna laugh when "View of the Sea at Scheveningen" turns up next year with Godzilla pile-driving Cthulhu in the surf (with Lootie cameo). And when "View of Auvers-sur-Oise" is found in some Farker's basement with The Flying Spaghetti Monster razing the countryside â la "War of The Worlds" I'll piss myself with glee.

Seriously, though, those ARE cool.

Vintage anything is really popular right now so prices have been skyrocketing. Goodwill is not so much a thrift store anymore as they are more a resale shop now a days. I'm finding that i can buy things cheaper on Ebay even with shipping than what Goodwill charges for them. I also find that prices on Goodwills auction site are usually higher than on Ebay and their shipping charges are higher as well.

I can buy entire outfits, shoes and all, from a yard sale for half the price Goodwill wants for shiat that's obviously farked up. I don't even bother looking there anymore, well that and the town I live in has a flea market & a vendor's mall.

My local Goodwill has a "half off day" once a month, Saturdays I believe. Crowds are generally present, but if I'm needing some clothes in which to climb down into a barge and do some welding, I'm paying as low as I can.

Could be. The rock on the right looks like El Capitan, just a few miles south of Hetch Hetchy.

I've forgotten whether I saw it in person from Half Dome when I was up there about 20 years ago, but I've seen tons of pictures. There's also that scene at the beginning of the Star Trek V where Kirk is trying to climb the rock face, freehand.

Estate sales are my favorite. I just look for ones posted by the kids who just put Grandma in a retirement home. I've gotten tons of stuff for super cheap because they don't care about any of it.

Many years ago Goodwill and Salvation Army heard 2 or 3 customers -gasp- resold items on eBay, pocketing PENNIES in profit along the way. their prices subsequently shot through the roof, screwign the very customer base that relied on them.

As far as choice/collectable/old furniture pieces, here in NoNJ they all have desirable pieces immediately tagged as sold, as insiders sell to resellers who they blow and take money from. Dishonest bastards in the disguise of helping people with charity.

I take delight in knowing of a SalArmy where I used to live that has its outdoor placed items pilfered all weekend. Kids from next door tear across the parking lot, claim choice goodies for themselves, and return to their spot in the 2nd story apartment window. I love thieves who steal from rip-offs.

Yes. Anybody who does anything that anybody else ever did is unoriginal and uncool.

Or, if the painting looks cool, it is cool, no matter if someone else did something similar first.

I think I'll take option B.

So, as someone who can't paint, but can work his way around Photoshop, what's the best way to do something like this to some paintings I have in the attic?
Should I get the images look as close as possible to the source work in Photoshop and then print them out as stickers?

You must live in my town. $125 purses, $65 shoes, $5 each for beat up 45s of Quiet Riot, Tiffany & Poison. I once spotted a Buddy Holly record broken in half. There was even a post-it on the cover that said it was broken in half. It was $20 because it was "collectible".

Whoever prices stuff at the local GW is on some mighty high-grade crack.
