Just because they weren't executive orders doesn't mean they aren't the actions of a power-mad dictator attempting to usurp the rights of honest Americans.

Obama: Congress needs to come up with a solution for rampant gun crime such as re-enacting the assault weapons ban.
NRA: The fascist president wants to take away all our guns. Stand and fight.
Obama: Federal funds are available to put armed guards into schools.
NRA: That commie bastard wants to take away all our guns. This is war.
Obama: Resources should Be used to investigate why the school shootings happened.
NRA: That secret Muslim wants to destroy America by taking away your guns. Stand your ground.

St_Francis_P: Just because they weren't executive orders doesn't mean they aren't the actions of a power-mad dictator attempting to usurp the rights of honest Americans.

Yeah, George W. Bush, Jr. (aka) King George VII) did not veto a single bill, which would have meant risking that a Democratic Congress would override his veto. Instead, he signed over 700 executive orders reinterpreting the laws at His Royal Pleasure. So there!

But then, everybody expects Republicans to behave like power-mad dictators. After all 47% of the people voted for Mitt Romney to be power-mad dictator. To Republicans, being in the minority doesn't not preclude behaving like a majority. And being in office doesn't mean they won't whine and howl like an opposition.

2013-01-17 01:55:21 PM
I mean, of course, that 47% of the people who voted, voted for Romney for King.

That's 47% of the roughly half of the registered voters who vote in Presidential Elections. The percentage of eligible people who vote Republican in other elections is the smaller of two or three slices of something between half and 1% of the eligible voters, not counting ineligible felons, etc., who are numerous.

So basically Republicans behave like unelected autocrats because they are unelected autocrats.

Who here recalls Romney campaigning on issuing dozens of executive orders day 1 of his administration? I do. Repeal obamacare, start building that dreadful pipeline to make us energy independent (how canadian oil would do that for the US is a mystery, but build that farking pipeline!) are a few that come to mind. Oh, and of the two that ran for president in 2012, which one actually signed a weapons ban? Doubt that will come up in the conversation. fark you conservitards. A half-billion eggs have been recalled in the nationwide investigation of a salmonella outbreak that Friday expanded to include a second Iowa farm. More than 1,000 people have already been sickened and the toll of illnesses is expected to increase.

Why won't anyone think of the children?

I was in New Orleans a while back, and when our waiter found out that we were from Seattle, he immediately mentioned the 12 eggs omelets at Beth's Cafe.  (He had been up here for the LSU @ UW game.)

"That's not an omelet!  That's a hen house," he said.

"Obama's directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study gun violence, and sending a letter to doctors and other healthcare providers clarifying a provision in the Affordable Care Act - introduced by NRA backer and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, for shame - that seemed to bar providers from asking patients about whether they had guns in their home. Administration officials say the CDC is prohibited from supporting "gun control" but not from studying data, and the ACA didn't bar providers' questions about gun ownership, only the creation of a gun-ownership database.

This is one of the ones that most concerns me, and the one I think for which there is the most legitimate criticism

It is not a medical health concern whether or not a gun is being stored in a house, unless the medical issue involves a gun injury. Anymore than it would be if they routinely gather information regarding what power tools are in the house, or whether the automobile in the driveway is properly maintenanced. It is simply not your health care provider's business whether you own a gun. Or a power tool. Or a sword collection. Or whatever.

Further, it is nonsensical to suggest that the CDC will somehow gather large data sets by which to study "gun ownership" by compiling it in correlation with personal medical records without compiling a DATAbase of gun owners.

Amazing that even though the Dems had control of the House and the Senate they still were unwilling to appoint an ATF director.

It is about time that 0bama stepped up and did the minimum amount expected. I know, I know, having an ATF director would have just gotten Holder in trouble with Fast and Furious, but it is time 0bama put partisan politics aside and appoint someone.

If the patient is being treated for depression, or any psychiatric disorder that can manifest in violent tendencies, I would suggest that taking into account that patient's ease of access to firearms IS a medical concern.

Seriously. President Obama might be the most pathetic imperialist dictator ever. I mean, he is just terrible at being fascist. He's even worse as a socialist. He's a mediocre liberal at best. And he might have the worst nazi credentials of all time. You'd almost think he was some kind of center-right, "compromise first, ask forgiveness later" moderate...

Good thing thats why I voted for him. His response to the gun control nuts and the gun lobby was exactly what I'd expect from the only adult in the room: restrained, advisory, and primarily focused on spurring dialogue.

Yet some people have a problem with this. Those people, however, are THE PROBLEM. History will reveal them as such. Hopefully not after they've done something horrible...

As pro gun as I am, I don't really see a problem with doctors asking whether or not you have a gun. You can always decline to answer, which is precisely what I would do if I felt the question was unrelated and irrelevant to whatever condition I'm visiting the good Doc for.

marcpen: Obama: Congress needs to come up with a solution for rampant gun crime such as re-enacting the assault weapons ban.

Since long weapons aren't a significant portion of all gun crimes; in fact, are used less frequently than knives, I fail to see how re-enacting a ban on something not frequently used can be considered a solution for anything. They may look scary to you, but they're just not a significant problem.

marcpen: Obama: Federal funds are available to put armed guards into schools.

This seems inefficient. Train, arm, and pay a little more to the adults who are already there.

marcpen: Obama: Resources should Be used to investigate why the school shootings happened.

Well, why not, federal funds are used to investigate everything else, whether useful or not. In the current case, it's pretty clear what happened. Someone who shouldn't have been near firearms stole some and when he started shooting there was no one to stop him. There were people willing to stop him, but they had nothing to stop him with.

marcpen: Obama: We need a rational solution which has the backing of the American people.

Good luck with that.
