Isn't that pretty.

Of course, what they'll end up with will be two dozen single-wides surrounded by an incomplete earth berm and a chain-link fence.

Dancin in Anson is just pissed off cuz he only just found out in this thread that "The Citadel" is a scam designed to separate right wing nutcases from their money.

He's on the phone with his bank right now trying to put stop-payments on a bunch of money transfers.

I'm guessing somebody thinks The Walking Dead is a documentary.

I think the problem with living in an isolated compound is the same as living anywhere isolated - employment.

Is this the glenn beck nutcase compound...... or another nutcase compound?

FlashHarry: isn't western idaho already nazi central?

Actually the Aryan Nation got kicked out several years ago (it partially collapsed on its own). I'm sure there are plenty of nuts up there but the big names are gone.

I find this really hilarious and I hope they do it. Too bad for the kids, though. Hopefully the place doesn't go all Jonestown.

Yep. Next time the FBI will kill them more quietly.

Love this bit: neighbors keep their noses out of other neighbors' business, that neighbors live and let live.

Is it wrong to subconscienciously add "unless they are gay, muslim, or the wrong color?" Since there is an application system can we assume this will be 100% white fundamental christian town?

nah, it will be made up of people on disability and social security. Unlike those moochers sponging off the government.

And ended when the government immolated 80 citizens on live tv a lunatic cult spread gasoline everywhere to martyr themselves.

FTFY.

This time there won't be a single shot fired or deputy dispatched. It'll be DFA.

Citrate1007: Why do all of the patriots want to secede, claim personal sovereignty, or otherwise rebel against the government?

They're basically cultists, always needing some kind of "us" vs "them" scenario to make their lives complete. And "patriot" sounds so much better than "terrorist".

Ya, that was the spin. The FBI didn't even launch 40mm grenades into the place, until they found the spent grenade cases in the evidence locker. Then the FBI did launch grenades into the compound. Through magic or time travel.

Oh hey its these guys again.

Same points from the other threads still apply: not enough room on that land to grow enough food to support a town that size

assumes that any post apocalyptic brigands wont use anything that was made after WW1

Power and Water stations right next to each other to make one big juicy target

its actually probably just a company town that will have corporate scrip in the form of gold and silver coins (which is admittedly more valuable than paper scrip)

Those walls look quite imposing. It will be interesting to see the "after" pictures taken from by armed drone when they finish.

I hope, for their sake, that these self-styled Independent Men of Action don't run across P. Barnes. He ain't got time for your half-baked interpretations of the Constitution.

Pretty much.

I have 80 acres out in a fairly isolated part of Alaska. (not many neighbors, but still on the road system) I would LOVE to build a "compound" and retreat from civilization. Not because I want to declare myself a "sovereign citizen" or out of fear of the gubbmint taking my guns, I am just tired of dealing with people in general.

But yeah...income. Until I save up enough to retire, no compound for me.

I think this is actually a different one. Maybe they could team up and then we wouldn't have to worry about seeing him anymore. He can use his profits from shilling for gold to help fund its creation, 'cause $208 per person sure isn't going to cover construction costs plus a year of food and water plus an AR-15 and 1000 rounds of ammunition.

totally. if i had to sum up the tenor of this thread in two words, it would be "scared shiatless"

This took place during Bush Sr's presidency. This coupled with the 'New World Order' speech sent conspiracy theorists in a tizzy. Then Waco. Oooooh boy did it get nuts with the conspiracies for a bit.

Then OKC bombing. I remember Limbaugh going apesh*t over the proposed anti-terror laws that Clinton wanted to put in place as a result of this bombing. Funny how he clammed up on the laws passed post-9/11.

I'm so glad I'm not part of that nutty life anymore.

1. Nobody wants to attack Idaho. Western, Central, the part that looks like Idaho getting ready to fark Canada...so they'd probably be safe with a toothless narcoleptic with Parkinson's sitting in a crow's nest with opera glasses and a bullhorn.
2. "the American icon of Liberty -- the Rifle". Good freaking lord. You know who else has a rifle as a symbol of their liberty? Hezbollah, Hamas, al Qaeda... We Americans more traditionally use the Bald Eagle, Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty or Blind Justice as symbols of America. (Or you could be weird and use Sam the Eagle, but I digress...)
3. A compound full of paranoid gun nuts, hell bent on protecting them and theirs from any and all threats using deadly force if necessary? I'm setting the over/under at "15 days" before the first "accidental" death or Trayvon-style "self-defensive" shooting.

vpb: Dancin_In_Anson: vpb: Yes, people who display symptoms of anti-social personality disorder and paranoia who can't handle living in society will live together in a commune as brothers with guns.

Chances are, you leave them alone and nothing will happen. Or you can poke them with a stick a few times and then go off on a rant about how they reacted.

No, chances are they end up just like these survivalist compounds usually do.  Remember Waco?  That started over a search warrent for illegal weapons.

Then there was the "JustUs compound", the "Republic of Texas", this guy, the Posse Comitatus loons, etc.

but I'm sure these guys will be an exception.

Waco didn't go down like you think it did.

$208 per person will not purchase 1000 rounds of .223 Remington caliber ammunition.

Now come on, man, you know that's not the case!  It's totally not fair to say that.  The monthly TANF checks that DIA and his cousin-sister-mamma receive can barely even pay for the rent on their double-wide.  There's no way he's got extra money to send to his friends in Idaho.
