1. It's "hyperspace," a-la Star Wars, not "warp drive," a-la Star Trek.
2. Look LIKE. Look LIKE
3. Repeat.

Thank you and have a nice day.

I'm 99.9% sure Carl Sagan already described this effect back in 1980. This is not a new idea, right?

What a repeat looks like.

Repeat. From like 2 days ago.

Also, again, these people are idiots. Ships in Star Wars aren't traveling through normal space at lightspeed, they're traveling through an adjacent universe where the laws of physics are different. Comparison not valid.

I think tardmitter was playing a trick on us between 'like' and 'light'... Right?

That's kinda the same argument for Star Trek too. It seems like this people looked at what high speed sub-light would look like rather than how most Sci-Fi describes warp/hyperdrive/whatever.

2013-01-17 03:05:54 PM
Did we warp speed back in time or something?

2013-01-17 03:07:36 PM
Here's the thing:

Reality is boring. High sub-light speed would probably look pretty cool but you're never going to get to Kessel in twelve parsecs at that rate.

Yeah, think of this shiat when you try to get a story greened and a repost shows up, maybe for the 3rd time. It's like they are blindfolded and throw darts at the keyboard.

F*cking time travel. Einstein was right. :/

Personally, I would have found the article far more interesting if they had actually calculated what the properties of an extra-dimensional hyperspace, like in the movies, would look like.

Einstein figured out this disk-of-light crap decades ago.

This is why Improbability Drive is far superior.

...okay now you may carry on.

Stone Meadow: Sad, Subby? Really? REALLY???

I know. If you are on a spaceship traveling at the speed of light and think, "Hey, this looks nothing like in Star Wars!" instead of, "Holy crap, I am traveling at the goddamn speed of light!" then there is something wrong with you.

That doesn't sound very likely.

Wait...I suspect it was Quantum Apocalyptic* who submitted this, so it's okaysad.

* - not intended as a real Fark ID, cuz calling him out in a thread before he appears would maybe be a Fark no-no

It's very likely, relatively speaking.

Nah, QA'd refuse to acknowledge FTL even being possible. Subby probably just meant it was sad that a white disc is nowhere near as aesthetically cool as watching stars streak by.

/not subby

Good point...I retract my rank speculation. ;^)
