Why? It is a very apt comparison. "Assault weapons" (or, if you want to actually be honest about it, military style semi-automatic rifles) are no deadlier than a civilian rifle of the same caliber, yet because they visually look like a military rifle they have been erroneously (and maliciously?) labeled as "assault weapons." Except for generally having a larger magazine capacity and some cosmetic differences, they are just like any other rifle out there. And so long as people continue to use the term "assault weapon" in such a fashion then why should they not do the same with other weapons? Or is such dishonesty only allowed to be used with firearms?
