I like Nicki Minaj. She is interesting and talented.

Nicki Minaj makes me glad to be old. I remember being a teenager and having to listen to about how whatever flash in the pan was super-talented and the next huge thing and would be around forever and ever. The New Madonna! People past 30 don't talk that way anymore.

Well, hopefully they don't. I think Lady Gaga suckered in some people who should have known better.

/btw, before there was madonna, who was the "new madonna"? was it cher? stevie nicks? barbara streisand?

I watched about 27 seconds and was already sick of the scripted 'feud' between her and Mariah. Then I found 'A-Team' on FX, and felt much better.

Earlier in the day at the judges' table, Minaj offered plenty of side eyes, grimaces and none-too-subtle digs aimed at Carey, who clearly got on the "Super Bass" singer's nerves right from the start.

"You know that there's going to be a little bit of potential personality conflict," explained Ryan. "Our superstars were super passionate from the get-go."

Isn't it exciting how two of the judges have such strong opinions and personality conflicts that will see them at odds throughout the season? I can't wait to watch the sparks and/or drama! *eyeroll*

I watched it to satisfy some curiosity. All the hype about the BS "catfights" was just that. There was a bit of staged banter (it appeared) in the beginning, then all four settled into assessing the contestants. I thought they did a decent job, and I was really surprised at the empathy shown by Minaj. I didn't think she had any.

the only reason I like it in the beginning is because I admit to experiencing schadenfreude to see all the idiots and no talents who believe they are entitled to stardom because their self-esteems suck and they throw tantrums.

A cat-fight between a has-been and never-will-be does not peak my interest for watching the show. Now, if they had a naked cat-fight..........

Exactly. She's the new Donna Summers. Or Aretha Franklin. I can't wait until I have kids, and when they grow up, show them the quality of music that was mass marketed to our generation.

Though Nikki Minaj did have a point at one point that you don't have to only sing a certain genre

So that is what a Nikki Minaj looks like. I flipped over quickly and wondered when Snookie became a judge. I then discovered Walking Tall on another channel just as The Rock was about to wreck the casino. I just can't turn that movie off if I find it on TV.

I haven't watched my DVRd 1st episode, but I'm gonna guess so far I've missed:

Single Black Mom with Voice of Gold makes it to Hollywood
Trolltastic white man who "Doesn't Give a Fark" sings heavy metal anthem doesn't make it and foesn't care
Seemingly Retarded Ethnic (Asian Probably) is just plain bad, but is applauded for his courage; gets a hug from Mariah or Nikki
Teen Boy with Soprano voice sings Danny Boy or Amazing Grace and get 3 Yesses from new judges and no from Randy
Teen Girl who has evil parents who told her she can sing; but is truly awful cries as she exits audition
Sweet Country Boy from Kentucky with perfect manners charms Nikki and Mariah with constant use of "Ma'am", Randy thinks not quite ready, but still makes it to Hollywood
Douche in chicken costume sings some Gangsta Rap (F--k the Police maybe), entire performance is bleeped
Smoking Hot 16-year old girl with cracky voice gets 2 no's from ladies and 2 yesses from men

I was surprised, Minaj seemed pretty genuine and almost down to earth except for the clothes and hair. Mariah Carey on the other hand seemed like a giant coont.

I recently passed my 35th birthday. I believe that's the point when I get to officially become out of touch with "what kids are listening to these days" and make superficial judgements on the artists music/style/makeup/etc...

I would do everything to her. I would wreck that chick.

The subtext of her songs generally amuses me, as well, but the actual implementation of that subtext is kind of passe' in it's over-the-topness.
Still don't get how so many of you missed that Stupid Ho was a satirical insult rap thrown in the face of the female music industry. It's practically filled with outright parody of various 'big name' pop and R&B 'stars'. And I don't even keep up with music much and could see them. It's all but a female R&B/Hip-hop version of 'Read A Book' and you people slobber over yourselves to congratulate that one on how articulate and well-spoken it is.

Nicki Minaj is annoying. I watched about 10 minutes of the show and couldn't handle it anymore.

How can anyone who doesn't have talent be a judge on a talent show.

2013-01-17 11:17:21 AM
I've never heard her sing, but I've seen the Fark threads. It's like she's not even a real person.

She just always looks so vacant and lifeless. Like she's dead on the inside, or she's really just a meat-puppet with a studio exec pulling marionette strings. Or maybe just an ultra-detailed Real Doll. I can't figure it out.

I love how we are just going to keep pretending that 20 million people don't still watch this show. It's a huge hit. I wish it would go away, but I am losing hope.

I'm old, don't listen to rap and I still know that she's been hailed as the best female rap artist pretty much ever. Come on, you're on the same internet that I'm on.

I caught 3 segments in the second hour of A.I. while getting ready for bed. I had never seen Nicki M. speak or more than few seconds of any song. After first segment I thought she was interesting. After second segment I thought she was fun. After third segment I thought she was annoying and had enough of the show. Turned of the t.v. and read a little before bed.

Believe it or not she used to be really good. Probably one of the best female rappers out there if you're into that Genre. Her stuff from the 2002-2007 era is spectacular. Then she made it to TV and went all Lady Gaga. Once Lil Wayne took over her career it went into attention whore overdrive and now you see the result.

That about sums it up.

Thing is, there was a point...a brief moment in time, actually, where she actually looked good a couple of years back. I believe it was right at the beginning of her working for Lil' Wayne. Then the plastic surgeries and the experimenting at the local Sherman-Williams began...

No.  Being attracted to a woman named Nicky Minaj is a disturbing fetish.  She's got all the appeal of an inflatable goat.

To me.

Your mileage may vary.  Just, you know, keep her away from hot lights.  I'm pretty sure that thing will melt like good cheese.

I dunno about best, but she does seem well respected in her field. She's hardly a celebrity just because she's a celebrity.

I watched it last night (because I have to spend quality time with the girlfriend or I don't get any), and I think my favorite part was with the girl from the farm. She first sang a country ballad, then when they asked her for another song, she broke out super bass. This sparked a huge debate about whether this shows her talent, or whether she's confused as an artist. It was actually an interesting conversation.
