Soulcatcher: busy chillin': mechgreg: Mad_Radhu: Fun trivia fact: the deputy in Gremlins is Mike from Breaking Bad.

And the high school teacher was Mayor Royce from The Wire.

That is fun when watching old movies. Watched Almost Famous last night and Dwight Shrute works for Rolling Stone. And Eric Stonestreet was a desk clerk.

I just watched Galaxy Quest the other day and Rainn Wilson (Dwight) played one of the aliens and Justin Long was the main kid.

Which one was Wilson? I knew Justin Long was in it but didn't know about Wilson.

More 80s movies that are getting remade:

WarGames

Poltergeist

Drop Dead Fred

The Neverending Story

House Party (yes, the Kid n Play movie)

Flight of the Navigator

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Evil Dead

Dirty Dancing

Akira (farking Akira??? Really???)

The Crow

I'd list more, but it's hard to type curled up on a fetal position.

I see the anti CGI butt hurt brigade is out in full force.

The only way to have Yoda to have a light saber battle is through CGI. Puppetry is just too limited.

I'd totally see a new Gremlins... Though it should be at least PG 13, and hopefully most of the creatures will be nifty puppets rather than CGI.

I don't think 'creatures' in a monster movie should be CGI. Its not scary when you don't think something is really actually there.... The Mist, The Host, The Relic.... all lame because they had no animatronics.

I'd argue that Chronicle was a remake in spirit of Akira. I definitely think it surprised some people, and I thought it was very entertaining.

It's actually funnier now that Donald Trump has gone insane. At the time, the parody of him in the movie seemed a little over the top because he seemingly couldn't possibly be that bad in real life. Now we know it was pretty much spot on.

Wilson was one of the aliens that show up at the convention and then later Tim Allen's house. He's also in the Limo scene. You don't see him much once they get to the ship, though.

styckx: you have pee hands: Are there really people out there who feel like Gremlins is this wonderful piece of cinema that shouldn't be tainted by a remake? We're not exactly talking about Casablanca here.

Was this you he is talking about?

serpent_sky: movieman_1979: It's not that difficult. Use puppets, with as little CGI as possible (erase the wires, etc..). Bring back Spielberg to produce and Joe Dante directing. It really isn't that difficult.

Wouldn't it just be easier to re-release the original, then? There's nothing wrong with it as is. That's usually the problem with remakes - there was no reason to do them in the first place, so it's an exercise in futility.

There is a reason for creating remakes, and this thread proves it - it automatically ensures millions of dollars worth of free publicity as soon as you announce the project, and it seems like most of the time it also provokes quite a lot of people to pay to watch it just so they can lambast it publicly the next day.

It made me kinda sad when that woman shoved that one gremlin into the micro-wave, as it winced and groaned in pain, then blew up. I wonder how this re-make will cover that scene or just keep it out all together.

That's the actual script Mel Brooks wrote for it a while back. It was about President Scroob and Dark Helmet trying to erase all traces of Spaceballs 2 from existance and the heroes had to find where the master print was hidden, complete with references to the non-existant second one that no one understood. He mentioned in an interview recently that he couldn't get MGM interested because they though it would confuse too many people.
