I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard. Wow. At first I thought the headline was talking about the figures being in a swimsuit, not him.

BTW, there are some men in Japan that do this as well, but they normally wear masks while they are doing it, thus they aren't quite as brave as this guy. Just look up kigurumi cosplay (if you are brave enough) and know that many of those people are men.

I'm not up for watching the video, but if you're describing what it sounds like you are, he may well just be from Bavaria or another part of Germany that speaks that dialect... I learned German in Nuremburg and have always used the hard 'ch' instead of pronouncing it like an 'sh' which always amused the Germans in Frankfurt when my family was stationed there later on.

I can't think of any examples where it would apply, so I'm not sure what you mean by "used the hard 'ch' instead of pronouncing it like an 'sh'"
But the guy in the video is definitely from Switzerland.

Here's an example for Schweizerisch and one for (koa) Bayerisch ;)

So I watched the entire video - this is why I don't talk to other anime fans.

Disregarding the WTF licking, other things that bothered me:

- He has duplicates (I spotted two Menma's and two Madoka's)
- He dropped / broke a couple
- He has an unnecessarily high display cabinet / figure ratio - he usually only had one or two figures per shelf. Those shelves typically hold up to 5 each.
- I have about a quarter of the same figures he does.

At least he's supporting the creators by buying lots of BDs/DVDs, although with that amount I assume they're not imported Japanese ones but locals. Either that, or he's very, very rich.

Bavarians speak a different dialect. Swiss German (which this guy is speaking) belongs to the Alemannic dialect (which is also spoken in Swabia in the southwest of Germany). They sound really different, a native speaker would never confuse them.
Nevertheless: This guy is almost certainly Swiss, not German.

RTOGUY: I don't follow anime at all is this type of thing common or if not common at least not totally bizarre in the anime fandom?

Collecting figures or other merchandise? As common as any other fandom- I have a modest number of figures myself, though only get Nendoroid figures anymore since I limit the space I will use for storing them.

Licking said merchandise- and filming it?!? No, that's not normal, unless you're talking something intended to be licked, like ice cream or a lollipop. And even then, filming it is pretty AW-ish...

Foxxinnia: Oh hey, I recognize that guy! He took his anime love pillow to a bar.

I didn't know what a love pillow was so I looked it up. Now I wish I hadn't. There are many things in this world that I'd feel better remaining ignorant of just for the sake of my own well-being and most of those things seem to come from Japan. I'm sure if I were to devote some time to do some in depth research I would discover that there is probably a great cultural reason to explain what is going on but I'm too scared to dig into it.

A culture with a highly repressed society where it's important to be polite and proper in public leads to some really weird shiat going on behind the scenes.
