MBooda: I used to bike centuries and half-centuries on a regular basis years ago before my doctor made me give it up before I destroyed my kidneys. Nothing about Derpstrong or any other competitive cyclist is news to me. All the competitive cyclists I've ever known range from repugnantly egotistical asshats to mouth-foaming suicidal maniacs, bar none. They don't just consider themselves above the law, they are convinced that a different code of conduct applies to their species and thet they can surpass the laws of physics.

Improve your community's overall mental health. Run over a cyclist today.

Hey asshole, some people on bikes are just riding to work to try to stave off diabetes. We aren't all spandex jerks.

What we really need to do is stop treating cycling as a "sport" and start treating it as the single most efficient form of human transportation mankind has ever come up with, bar none.

Actor_au: The thing that I hate about Lance Armstrong is that he lied and people all believed him

Of course, there were those of us who just don't give two shiats (or even one for that matter) about professional cycling, much less care whether or not this asshole was lying or not.

Don't watch cycling, do it!

JackieRabbit: Yet the cycling authorities didn't seem to have a problem with it at the time.

Maybe that was a part of it too? They let him and a bunch of other pro cyclists get away with doping (and let's be honest, that whole SPORT is loaded with cheaters, to the point where one has to question what actually constitutes "cheating") for years and years, and now they've suddenly changed their minds and want to come after him for something that they gave him at least tacit permission to do. You'd be pretty pissed too, I think, if you felt that someone had gone back on their word.

I'm just playing devil's advocate, and I think it's fair to point out that this whole mess is a lot bigger than one person. Pro cycling as a whole is one of the dirtiest sports on the planet, and I tend to believe that Lance Armstrong is a symptom of a much larger disease.

This is a lot of drama for something that amounts to a farking bicycle race.
