"Concept" being same old crap under the hood. Fancy Schmancy exterior.
Wake me when the concept is 110 MPG, or an electric that goes more than 110 Miles without recharging.
Yes, I know a Hybrid can do it. Show me a stand alone system that can.

Ugly as the Centaur is, it sure would be nice if there were a low pickup (El Camino, etc.) still available. The pickups out there now are crap if you don't want to lift things over your head to get them into the back.

I remember the Sunraycer. There was another concept car from that era that looked very tron like. It had blue neon pin strips that glowed. It was very badass but I forget what it was called.

I remember having hot-wheels models of some of these cars in the early-mid 80's. Especially that Oldsmobile Aerotech thingy. SOOO cool when you are a kid, nowadays, not so much.

In the '80s we were promised that someday all cars would look like that. Also that they would fly.

Could be worse- could be the late '70s, which saw such masterpieces as the TR-7, the Ford Pinto and Maverick, or the VW "I feel like donating my paychecks to the shop" Rabbit. "What, you didn't use VW-approved gasoline in the car? Not our problem, sorry."

It's common across all engineering fields. Sometimes we design things that we're not proud of.

That Aerotech was nice.

I had a Hot Wheels drag racing track at the time- I was 7 in 1988- it was two parallel tracks, each with a catapult, and a countdown thingy to signal you when to launch. My friends and I would race our little cars. Anyway, I got a Matchbox Olds Aerotech, and it immediately became the reigning toy dragstrip champion. It was the fastest Matchbox/Hot Wheels car I had.

speaking of which, Rosie O'Donnell once had a long rant on her blog about how beautiful she thought the pontiac aztek is. Then she got all pissy because the dealer nearly charged her full price at a time when they were being sold for about a $10k discount.

it was then that i knew she was FAR out of the mainstream. a) she thought it was good looing. b) she didn't realize that everyone else hated it.

That looks terrible, but I could see a convertible minivan being a blast as a rental. You would probably need some way to reduce wind in the back, but it would be awesome for a short road trip with a bunch of people.

it was already in production. Those cars are HUGELY popular in Australia. They're built by holden, the Australian arm of GM. The same folks who built the last GTO. The only thing that was to change was slapping a Pontiac logo on there.
