I was expecting this:

upload.wikimedia.org

looks like one hell of a cast minus David Schwimmer.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd say most of his post-"Friends" stuff has been pretty good.

Nice trailer. I fully expect this to be the mob flick Killing Them Softly should have been.

Family life in the Iceman household.

"Hey kids, you know how I like to mercilessly beat your mother? Well, if I ever end up killing her, I'm going to have to kill all of you, too. Not that I want to, I just don't want to leave any witnesses".

I only saw him in Band of Brothers. And he was perfect for the role.

Watched the interview they did with the real Iceman on Youtube and I must say for all the killings he has done he honestly looks like he didn't lose sleep over it. Call it being a psychopath, but it honestly looks like he could pull off being "normal" as far as I can tell.

I think Michael Wincott makes an appearance in this as well. He's one of my favorite character actors.

Why a spoon?

In all seriousness, yes...I do enjoy the man. With what little he had, he was very poignant in Count of Monte Cristo.

Just watched this one again the other night, hadn't seen it in years...cried like a baby at the end. Great movie, after you pick apart all the impossibilities.

I watched one of the interviews on television. He calmly discussed putting a cat in a furnace as a child just to see if he could feel anything and didn't do it again only because he got nothing from it.

Then, on another occasion, he discussed catching up to a group of college guys who had cut him off on the road and executing all of them. The doctor asked him if really thought they deserved it; if cutting him off in a car was "a capital offense." His response (best as I remember it): "Well, it obviously was, because I killed them."

He was a fascinating guy, but damn if just hearing about his life wasn't goddamn disturbing beyond belief. My only solace is that some experts claim he lied about a lot of things (ie, tying a guy up and having him eaten alive by rats).

I'm not sure what my point was, but i think its that our culture is bombarded with images of gun violence, and we root for it... and its like, 'why'? I'm not some fancy pants Liberal.. i believe in the right to bear arms, but i'm sensing a cosmic shift in our entertainment values.. I believe that in 10 years, these types of images are going to be passe like the Hummer.

Commando - released 1985 (you could also substitute just about any other Schwarzenegger film)

scm-l3.technorati.com
Rambo Part II - 1985, part III in 1988

Dirty Harry - 1971

These are just 3 examples off the top of my head, there are many more. Gun violence in entertainment is far from a recent trend. Not even close.

I used to really enjoy horror movies. Still do on occasion. Mob flicks too. Serial killer stories. I still have some old Jack the ripper newspapers. But, after my cousin was stabbed to death two years ago,I really have lost my taste for violent images, movies etc... things like that change a person. Rest in peace Scotty

One could argue there's a huge discrepancy between a movie like Commando, where the entire point is the annihilation of an entire army, vs. something like this, where there is obviously a huge subset plot that deals with the mans conflict between his amoral lifestyle and what he does as his job. Same could be same for a show with violence such as Dexter, which has very interesting undertones about good and bad.

Not all gun violence movies are evil. There was still mass shootings and murder in the decades noted, and yet we still went to go see movies for entertainment. The only difference these days is mass hysteria and paranoia.

I remember Red Dawn (1984) was considered the most violent movie ever made by Guinness, surely that's been usurped now (the last Rambo certainly had to have surpassed it). At any rate, gun violence in movies goes back to at least 1903 with "The Great Train Robbery", at least in the US. This continued in Westerns, mobster, war, spy, cop, James Bond films, etc. Now films just seem worse and a little grittier with use of better lenses, editing, effects, etc.

Wow, an Italian mafia movie? That's so new and edgy. And hey, it has Ray Liotta in it. It will be neat to see him playing a member of the Italian mafia for a change.

I remember listening to a radio interview with a guy who did a biography on him. Some of the shiat was just horrific, including the claim that he actually had videos of many of his kills.

Why does everything have to be new and "edgy" now? Can't a movie just be good? This looks like a decent flick, save your bitterness for something that deserves it.

Are you retarded? Or just like, 19? Movies have gotten less violent over the last 30 years, not more. Hell, the westerns of the 60's are more bloody and violent than most Hollywood movies are today. If there's a shift in entertainment values, it's away from gun violence and violence in general.

I watched those docs so many times. If there was one "lighthearted" moment, it's of the gay nightclub killing. He went out and bought the loudest suit he could find, and acted as gay as he could to blend in, The thought of this guy at 6'4 dancing and acting like Richard Simmons just had me rolling.
