Unfortunately sometimes the quality of the production design rarely keeps up with the quality of the TV show. Seinfeld and All in the Family are two that come to mind. The sets were about as far from New York as it's possible to go and still stay in the US. But the shows themselves were very New York.

semiotix: Fair enough, but can you explain why the police station he frequents appears to be a Crate & Barrel showroom?

Police funding took a MAD hit in the Castleverse.

Mike Chewbacca: He buys all that shiat for them.

*snert*

Also a valid possibility!

That is actually how they got their giant awesome espresso/capuccino/latte/coffee machine. Castle got tired of drinking their crap coffee.

I want to see the police station slowly morph into Castle's apartment by the end of series, with Castle being unable to tell the difference between his two "worlds," as it were.

Yeah. I dream big.

elvindeath: Krysten Ritter has thick, bushy eyebrows. You know what that means.

Excess testosterone that makes her a demon in the sack?

fusillade762: The 20-something girls-Chloe and June-live in a massive two-bedroom apartment in what looks to be a nice area of Manhattan.

Granted I know nothing of New York real estate, but it never looked "massive" to me.

I think this is why they do this in TV shows. In NYC, that's massive. Possibly even whatever superlative is even bigger than "massive." But most of the TV-viewing audience doesn't live in NYC. So the set designers and writers upgrade things a bit to make it "translate" to what the rest of the country is used to.

It's also probably easier to film in a big room than it is to film in a realistic NYC apartment. Your actors would never move around. They'd just come in and sit down in one of the two chairs.
