It seems unlikely at the moment, it exploded on impact with the ground.

FTA: "Witnesses reported seeing debris on the ground."

That's some mighty fine reporting.

I apparently rode right past this as it was happening. But as they cram us into the trains like sardines I wouldn't have caught any of it

It happened in London, so it's more likely to be the next James Bond film.

True, but you have to admit that Wilford Brimley's "Cajun" accent is hilariously bad.

Well the American river that's spelled the same (in Connecticut) sounds like it's spelled (THA) and not TEM. I'd think that there might be a little leeway there.

2013-01-16 05:16:02 AM
clearly, a 'news flash', cnn front page, bbc live coverage, and internet live feed are needed for this event which has all the makings of a sad but routine traffic accident.

let's ignore the 700-1000 worldwide motor vehicle deaths today. not photogenic enough.

Would you rather the cameras were covering a collision at a crossroads in the middle of nowhere? You don't think an aircraft accident in the middle of a major capital city & worldwide financial centre, next to a government security facility might be newsworthy? Not sure what your point is.

So.... exactly how it's spelled, and how the rules of English pronunciation would expect it to be pronounced? I get that it's got a local pronunciation, but it's not the news anchor's fault that the locals are idiots.

You appear to not be familiar with the concept of 'news'.

"When a dog bites a man, that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news."

From your comment, we can convert this to be more relevant:

When a motor vehicle crashes, it isn't news, because it happens so often. When a helicopter crashes into the street, that is news.

Or they could take a few moments and watch/listen to the BBC live feed. IMHO, if you report for a major news agency like MSNBC, CNN, etc. you should know and/or learn how to pronounce things properly. Doing so makes you look and sound more professional.

Yeah. If you're a reporter you should know basic geography and how to pronounce the name of one of the most famous rivers in the world.

A helicopter crashing in Central London during rush hour is not a routine traffic accident. Not by a long shot.

Correct pronunciation for 'Thames' is Tems

You, and the rest of you who defend this sensationalistic bit of over-coverage of what is essentially a meaningless non-event as "news" are exactly why the major networks get away with pandering as they do and why so many reporters get away with the lazy bullshiat rather than covering things that matter. congratulations: you are the lowest common denominator. When this is done, be sure to tune in to NASCAR followed by a bit of honey boo boo for you to feel superior to whoever.

A small helicopter clipping a tower and crashing into a street is NOT worldwide news. Full stop.

Well, it's a good thing I am not directly under a crash that happened across the ocean from me.

This is not a newsflash item. This, like most things, is LOCAL NEWS.

All news is local.

Until it isn't.

Also, it's worth mentioning that it's not news.

IT'S FARK!
