A Democrat trying to find a way to "protest."

No news here.

2013-01-16 01:50:58 AM
And the whole "under god" bullshiat was put into the pledge way after it was written by the rightwing fascists from a different decade.

It really isn't news.

Stupid to think no one would notice and care.  Also stupid to care.

Relatively Obscure: Stupid to think no one would notice and care.  Also stupid to care.

I knew there was a good reason I have you favorited.

No news here.....my Grandfather learned the pledge in the 20's at school. At that time "under god" wasn't in the pledge...He stumbled when trying to recitie it...and also had very Religious objections. From sound Biblical Predicable. About using "GOD" and a pledge to a graven image. (the flag) and Christ's words.
The "Under God" addition removes it to a oath swaring to the flag invoking god.

And just for fun here---it wasn't the Atheists or Liberals that got school prayer removed.
It was hard core Christians--that took Christ's commandments very seriously about praying in public by reciting versings 'like a heathen in the street corner'.

From Mathew Chapter 6:

1Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. 3But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does: 4That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.
5And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. 6But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.
7But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not you therefore like to them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him.

I've been told that god is love, so why is this a problem.

Of course, I was also told love is blind, thus making Stevie Wonder god.

It's Oregon. I'm pretty sure she meant IN love.

2013-01-16 09:37:59 AM
god is love
love is blind
the blind lead the blind
but in the world of the blind the one eyed man is king.

my cock > god.

The Pledge of Allegiance was authored by a Christian Socialist, not a "rightwing fascist".

I actually like that version more.

I say "under Rod", referring to Rod Stewart.

I really wish they would take it back out. It was written in fear as part of the red scare. Now it stands as a shameful reminder of this countries cowardice as well as violating the spirit of the non-establishment cause.

Unfortunately religious types who claim to draw strength from religion would wet their pants if anybody suggested taking it out.

Hero tag off praying somewhere?

I don't even care. The Pledge is no less stupid than any change made to it. Mass pledges are stupid in general and this one, I'm just sick of hearing about. Play the national anthem, run up the flag, but the Pledge is a poor substitute for knowing something about civics.

Francis Scott Key didn't even write the "under God" bit.  It was added in 1954.  It isn't even in the traditional real pledge.

2013-01-16 09:54:16 AM
Big deal....

when I was in school I always made up my own words to it. Often "indivisable" would become invisable, etc...etc..etc...

I also remember a Jevoha's wittness, just standing quietly in the corner not saying a word and I remember asking my teacher about that. She told me to mind my own business.

"well if she doesn't have to say it, then why do I?"

Tomei's modified pledge did attract some criticism from Republicans. "To me, it's a little disrespectful to do that," said Rep. Jim Weidner, R-Yamhill.

Shut the f*ck up you whiny piece of sh*t! Just do your job and SHUT THE F*CK UP!

Actually, it said in the article that when she learned it (she's 77 yrs old) "under god" wasn't included. It was added later. I personally don't say it either.

As every red-blooded patriotic American knows, you are a Muslim communist scum if, when saying the Pledge, you do not shout "under God" at the  top of  your lungs.

If you say "under God" you are sh*tting on everything the US is supposed to stand for. If you actively try to force people to say it you are a traitor.

Why the fark are people still pledging allegiance to a flag? What are we, pre-enlightenment cave men?

It's a lot less stupid than making a national issue out of someone exercising their right not to slather public matters with an archaic superstition in a country that is supposed to keep that sh*t OUT of it's service of the people.

Also she's 77 freaking years old, learned the pledge before that idiotic nonsense got put in and should be able to say that part how she wants. I would prefer she just left that part completely out.

AND WHY DO REPUBLICANS HATE LOVE?!
