Sorry to offend your scientific sensibilities, Yellowbeard. My attempt at humor was apparently lost on you. I apologize.

North will become south?
Up will become down?
Black will become white?
Existance will become nothingness?

Ummm, anyone know the meaning of the word exponential?!

Uhh, at the current rate itll take 2000 years (or whatever i think that's even off), but its rate of change is increasing dramatically, so if its dropping 1%/year now, it could be 3% in a few more years, then 10%/year. weve never experienced this so we dont know what the increase in fluxuation would be.

Also, if this happens more harmful radiation will reach us, but on the good side, wed have auroras all the frickin time. woohoo!

Also, whats the connection between the earth's magnetic fields, the sun's increasing activity, our earths 26,000 year precessional rotation and the Mayan calendar end date of 2012?

...um, yeah. You ever read any of Stephen King's other books? And you're surprised that his newest has a crappy ending? Dude, WTF?

I blame this on all the internal combustion engines I own, if I could just stop having fossil fuel consuming fun, all of this would go away. But alas I am an American and was raised to only care about myself, so to hell with it. Let the next generations worry about which way is north. By the way, it was -4 when I walked the dog this morning, could we do something about that?

Tyee,

You could always invent a time machine and travel back several hundred years. The Earth was significantly warmer back then. No SUV's though....have to use horses.

You need some Magnetic Field Ointment for that aching orifice! It's the cure for what ails ya!

In his day, he was an awesome writer, IMO. His best stuff, again IMO, was left sci-fi supernatural and more about the darker side of humanity.

Maybe in our new poles-reversed Bizarro world he stopped writing before he jumped the shark...

This is all a nefarious scheme by those who make GPS devices to drive the compass makers out of business.

You mean during the Mini Ice-Age?

No, during the dark ages.

Touchyournose: Well, according to that Nova program on magnetic pole reversals, we have a pretty good idea of how fast prior reversals took.

And I have to wonder how the hell someone figured out you could take magnetic field readings from friggin pottery.

So are we all gonna die before the sun blows up? The sun was given 15 mil years. 1200 or so doesnt seem that long. But then again thats alot of generations. I wonder if there is gonna be a big y2k freakout right before its scheduled to happen.

The Sun will not blow up. However, once it runs out of hydrogen to fuse at its core, its radius will increase to about the radius of the Earth's rotation and the Earth will be consumed. But this will only happen after 5 billion years, so we got a while.

one2toke, nah, just take the book to him and ask for a refund. If asked why, just say that your copy was defective. The ending didn't work.

Who cares about this problem? We have more pressing issues, like the Robots! They steal old people's medicine for fuel! And there's no insurance out there with a robot plan!

And then burn every Stephen King book ever written.
bitter about the craptacular ending to Wolves of the Calla

I'm not bitter about it, I liked it. But I will say I might join you in becoming bitter, if he doesnt end it all the right way. Right now its in the middle of a seesaw, ready to fall either way. He could really fark it up if hes not careful...I DONT want him to have a big part in the final books. A cameo is definitely happening; just make it small, short, and insignificant, PLEASE.
threadjack over.

Malarauko, if the radius of the sun is going to increase that much, wouldn't the surface temperature cool porportionately? Wouldn't we just be floating on the surface of a really warm ocean of gases? Consumed? No. Just an end to the sweater industry. This is all a plot to drive up the prices of refrigerators! DAMN MAYTAG! DAMN WHIRLPOOL! It's all their fault!! And Clintons!

State_college:Yeah, i saw that. we know how long between them (reversals used to be a lot longer but are becoming shorter) but what im talking about is we dont know how fast the exponential decline is. i mean its already increasing, will we hear about this in five years where the poles are reversing at 15%/year?

yeah, the pottery was cool, about how when its fired all the material becomes non-descript but as it cools the magnetic orientation is put in.

However, im referring to something else. I've found the answers to a lot of stuff by researching the Maya and whats wrong with our perception of clocks and calendars. The moon orbits the earth thirteen times a year in a spiral orbit around the sun. Which is why i believe we need a 13 month calendar of 28 days each and one day at the end, a day out of time. Our current perception is why we live in a confused mechanized society further deviating from nature and our timeless purpose.

The Sun and Earth's activity are preparing us for our transformation into galactic culture. The Earth's 26,000 year precession is closing this cycle. The beginning of the end of this cycle starts July 26, 2004.

Let 13:20 set you free.
